I’m that woman.

Chow chow is one of those old recipes that connects the past to the present. Every time it’s simmering, it carries memories and flavors that remind me why we keep these traditions alive.

🍂 Fall is filling up with good things! 🍂

I wanted to share a couple of upcoming events we’re excited about this fall:

📍 Great Fall Garden Festival – Jemison, AL – September 20, 2025
A wonderful day for homesteaders and gardeners—lots of learning, sharing, and inspiration for anyone who loves growing food and living simply. We’ll be there sharing a tent with our friends at HOSS—so if you’re around, drop by and chat a bit! https://facebook.com/events/s/3rd-annual-great-fall-garden-f/10054979631257113/

📍 Foothills Farm Festival – Danbury, NC – October 4, 2025
A celebration of Southern Appalachian heritage and culture—good music, good food, and plenty of family fun. Andy will be helping out with some of the field demonstrations and I’ll be there too— be sure to stop and say hello! https://www.facebook.com/share/19nU4yyF9K/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Both of these events are worth the trip, and it would mean so much to us to get to meet some of you in person. 💛

Some pictures from the last couple of days
1. My version of “shortcake” leftover biscuits, pickled peaches, and cool whip. Delicious!
2 & 3. With all this rain we took off to the local greenhouse, since we’ve lost hope in our brassicas we started for fall. 😅 Supporting local + they always have great plants!
4. Calf is weaned, starting the drying off process with Candy, we get to enjoy her rich milk just a little longer
5. The clouds have been so beautiful and interesting lately!

A late summer day, from garden to porch. Pole beans, black eyed peas, grapes, and a walk to the creek garden… finding an early sign of fall. We finished the day the way we love best — stringing beans and letting the evening settle in.

This isn’t just field corn — it’s years of saving seed, praying for rain, and watching it get a little stronger each season. Andy’s landrace field corn mixture is standing over 12 feet tall this summer, and it’s a sight worth seeing.

Ever tasted sunshine in a jar? 🌞 This roasted salsa is smoky, tangy, and made with veggies picked just steps from our back door.

They said we were crazy… now we’re holding this. ❤️

If you’d told us years ago that we’d be standing in our cornfield holding a YouTube Silver Play Button, we probably would’ve laughed.

We’ve poured in countless hours, worked through long nights and hot days, and kept going when folks told us it would never work — that we were wasting our time, maybe even a little crazy. But the Lord carried us, we leaned on each other, and YOU — our amazing viewers — showed up again and again.

This little piece of silver is more than an award. It’s proof that faith, grit, and good people can make the impossible happen. And through it all, we’ll never change — we’re still just plain old folks, living simple and showing real life the way it is.

From the bottom of our hearts… thank you. ❤️

She’s not fully fixed yet, but Andy coaxed the old D6B to life long enough to move her up to the shop for some proper work. Feels good to see her moving again after sitting for so long!

Nothing beats the taste of fresh tomato juice made from homegrown garden tomatoes. Join us in the kitchen as we turn this summer’s harvest into rich, flavorful juice that’ll be a treat all year long. 🍅
