The Mackem and The Manc: a Space: 1999 Podcast. What happens when someone who's never seen classic 70s sci-fi watches it with their other half who's a total geek for it?

Will they love it, hate it, or ask for a divorce on the spot? The Mackem (Katie) and the Manc (Colin) from England.

To everything that might have been... to everything that might yet be.

The last podcast. Part 2 of our wrap up begins with paying tribute to the passing of Clifton Jones, so soon after Prentis Hancock leaving us. Computer Kano was always a fun character, jousting with Victor on intellectual matters, protecting computer like a proud father. We both hope you enjoy your life in the next world.

We also then discuss how two of the stars being in X Files has passed Katie by. Better late than never.

The rest of the pocast is devoted to how we feel about the show, what Katie really though of it as a Space: 1999 virgin, what went right and what went wrong. We discuss our favourite memories and hopes for the future of '99. Finally, after the credits, we will tease the subject of our next podcast series. We sincerely hope you will join us on our next sci-fi adventure.

Thank you everyone for being with us on our journey. Our emails and social are always open for any comments or feedback.

To everything that might have been... to everything that might yet be.

The last podcast. With a ting of sadness we wrap out what remains of the Space: 1999 universe, starting with the two Year 2 movies, Destination Moonbase Alpha and Cosmic Princess. What's not the like about seeing the pink gimp mask dude one last time, this time with a silly voice over? And Katie finally gets to meet Oliver Onions. Was it worth the wait?

We then sweep up the semi-unofficial content, with:

Message from Moonbase Alpha - https://youtu.be/qqW1xHgwZHQ?si=pKbl6_2sia7qIiMK
The Return of Victor Bergman - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZWm80QEVEQ
Return to Moonbase Alpha - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6EOcbQzZe4

(not all links will work in all countries - sorry!)

We discuss what did (or didn't happen) to Season 3 and the remake promised for Space: 2099, and it their absense enjoy the brilliant fan-made trailer at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iF-4zXbZC8&pp=ygUZYW50b24gcGhpbGxpcHMgc3BhY2UgMTk5OQ%3D%3D

We also give Katie a taster of the audiobooks by Big Finish in the brilliant teaser at https://youtu.be/Tipx1MrxRTA?si=0F6TVJEuKjjLZffD

In Part 2 of this episode we will discuss our feelings on the show and hint at the subject matter of our next podcast series.

The second of our two bonus pods see us pay tribute to the best moustache in showbizness, Prentis Hancock, who sadly left us earlier this month. Playing the pivotal role of 2nd in command, Paul Morrow, we remember him for all his magnificence (just don't mention the magic mushrooms).

Moving on to the main event, we watch the fan edit God's Will - a great vision by Eric Bernard who spent years re-tooling the episode of War Games to explain away the differences between year 1 and year 2. To be honest, it's great seeing all the old cast again. You can catch him at http://www.space1999.org/features/articles_interviews/ericbernard_interview1.html - sadly his site space2099.com seems to be gone.

Then normally Colin would set a quiz for Katie but oh no - it's the turn of John Humpries of the BBC quiz show Mastermind and we try and see if we can go out-do Space: 1999 mega fan Samira Ahmed. We also run through a list of other famous celebrity fans of the show, only a couple are on the 'oh no' list we promise. YouTube link to Samria's performance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6JTqf295Q8

Katie and I are upset to hear of the passing of Clifton Jones, so soon after Prentis' departure. His outstanding contribution as the grumpy but affable David "Computer" Kano was a real highlight of Season 1 of Space: 1999, often providing a great adjunct to Victor Bergman's intellectual musings.

Clifton also featured in Sci Fi classics Survivours and Star Trek TNG; noteably playing two roles in the same two-parter.

The ensemble of great actors in the next world from the show just got its latest player. Godspeed Clifton.

Our first of our three bonus pods sees us visit Into Infinity/Day After Tomorrow - so good they named it twice. Filmed between Year 1 and 2, this is an almost-Space 1999 episode, sharing a lot of the cast and crew. We have a lot of fun spotting the 99-isms amongst what was the highest of brow children's TV programme. Fred hadn't even got the gig, so may be he wasn't responsible for all of the jazzing-up/dumming down of Year 2, judging by this.

We have Brian Blessed being very non-shouty, Nick Tate being the main man, an annoying proto-Young Sheldon, Einstein for dummies, Katie actually being ok about Spring the dog being left behind, the peach melba woman no longer being alive and radio-active having an annoying hyphen.

Katie and I are gutted to learn of the passing of Prentis Hancock - aka Paul Morrow from Year 1 of Space: 1999. The beating heart of the show, Paul and his moustache always grounded the crew of moonbase alpha whilst the madness ensued all around him.

He'll always be remembered for his heroic contribution to our beloved '99 and joins some many of our other favourites in the next world. He was also in many other classic shows including Survivors, another 70’s sci-fi classic.

The nicest of characters (except that time when he got off his n**s on magic mushrooms and tried to kill Helena's stunt double, but we all have the odd day like that, don't we?)

Rest in Peace Prentis and godspeed.

Colin.

Oh no! It's the final episode of the show (but not of the podcast - rest assured). The Dorcons is one of the better year 2's although you have to forgive the missing ceilings and sparse set decorations. The budget really had been blown.

We've the wonderfully evil Malik, Dr. Who being old and a bit slow, the old woman from the end of the last Star Wars movie being - well - official and a lot of recycled props. But this is a Maya episode, her range of emotions is splendid as she is put to the test as a brain stem doner. She even asks Helena to kill her, and Tony didn't say a word.

As the most famous Mackem on the internet, Katie starts the pod celebrating some amazing Sunderland-related news. Then we quickly move on to the penultimate episode of Year 2, The Immunity Syndrome. There's John wearing a strange ski mask thing, Tony getting space rabies, the girls flying a glider and an amazing red shirt body count. There's also a famous dad, which Katie gets before the opening credits have even rolled. So much for teasing that one.

Post-pod we take an article from 1977 about the Landau-Bain's bedroom habits, which is actually two sentences on them not going to bed on an argument, and the rest about their life style. We boo-hoo about the fact they 'only' had a five storey house in Beverly Hills, find out about how they met, and about Martin's secret passion. Spoilers: it's not Tony's homebrew.
