What Are You Celebrating in Our Country’s Current Situation?
Are you truly happy because justice has been served? Or is this just about proving a point, feeding egos, or silencing those who think differently? Many are quick to throw stones at a man who allegedly sacrificed a few for the greater good of his nation. Yet, those demanding justice today also accept that sacrifices must sometimes be made for the greater good.
History, whether in politics or biblical accounts, has shown that innocents have been condemned without due process. It wasn’t always right, but it happened.
The International Criminal Court (ICC), with the cooperation of Interpol, has pursued a case against a fellow Filipino, a process typically reserved for nations where domestic justice systems are deemed inadequate. But has the Philippines even been given the chance to uphold its own sovereignty? Why celebrate when a Filipino is being prosecuted in a foreign land instead of facing justice at home?
Some argue, “What’s the problem? The Netherlands has better facilities. That person will be comfortable there.” But does that justify surrendering our country’s own citizens for that reason? Instead of handing over our people to foreign powers, shouldn’t we be fixing our own institutions? If we allow this, what does it say about our sovereignty?
This isn’t about blue, green, pink, red or yellow. If this were your favored politician, would you still laugh? Or would you be furiously defending them, just as you have before?
But you know what? We’d stand with you, too, not because we support your candidate, but because we refuse to see our justice system disregarded.
History has shown that betrayals often come from within. Rizal, Bonifacio, Luna, and other significant figures in Philippine history weren’t just victims of foreign enemies but also of political maneuvering and the selfish interests of their own countrymen. Are we repeating history today?
If we cannot trust our own justice system, then who truly holds power over our nation? If justice is for sale, does our vote even matter?
This is bigger than one man. This is about our country’s dignity.
Will you stand for the Philippines? Will you fight for our right to uphold justice on our own soil?
