After June’s massive drop of feature updates, July had ZERO with significant eDiscovery impact. That gave me a month off of roadmap coverage. The 178 new/updated features since June continue to improve Copilot integrations. Teams meeting recap will now reach mobile, 1:1 chat and in-person meetings, which increases the pressure on corporate legal to expand eDiscovery to manage this content.

While a LOT of features got status updates this month, I only found 73 new features added. That does not mean that your Purview eDiscovery UX and features have been static. ‘Data Sources’ tab has returned to many tenants so that your default holds/searches again reflect your custodian targets.

Last year my friend Doug Austin wrote a nice exploration of the new Copilot automatic summarization feature rolling out to Word and other Office apps. While trying to find Teams Copilot meeting recap content last week I was surprised when a flood of these document summaries appeared in my Purview eDiscovery search results.

Q1 2023 Microsoft rolled out the Teams Copilot Recap feature for customers with E5 and Copilot licenses. Most of my global corporate clients are still balancing the user demand for meeting recordings/transcripts against their potential cost/risk downstream. This is complicated by the potential Copilot generated recap summaries, action items/tasks and real time answers.

488 roadmap updates in May, but only 137 new features added. This translates to a lot of status and release updates. Although there were only 2 Purview eDiscovery additions, they both have potential usage impact. There were also a surprising number of data source features introduced that add potential eDiscovery challenges to preservation and collection.

Twenty-two (22) years ago Symantec recruited me to manage the Discovery Accelerator within the Enterprise Vault team right after acquiring Veritas. Symantec was a huge technology company and I always felt the enterprise info governance products struggled to thrive in the shadow of the giant consumer security products.
