Ms. Adverthinker I am a communications strategist in the digital space. Curiosity drives me. Reading entertains me. Learning something new excites me. Shopping is how I relax.

I have a knack for taking mounds of information, understanding it, organizing it and finding the insights as foundations for development of strategy and measurable tactics. Talking to smart people turns me on. I am short, but I wear tall shoes. I like to be prepared for any situation, so I carry a big bag. I listen more than I talk. I am Emily Reeves and I work at an advertising agency in Little

Rock, Arkansas. It is hard to explain what I do at the agency, but basically I create order from chaos. I am an infovore. I have a knack for taking mounds of information, understanding it, organizing it and finding the insights as foundations for development of strategy and measurable tactics. My specialties include digital strategy, all kinds of research, writing, brand strategy and presentations. You can read all about my career over on LinkedIn. My quest for knowledge has taken me to architecture school, journalism school, law school, guitar lessons, motorcycle classes, drawing classes, yoga classes, thousands of books, movies galore, fits and starts of writing projects, more airline miles that I can track, the insides of conference centers, presenting to rooms full of people and hours on end staring at a computer screen. I learn a little bit along the way from each experience. In general, I notice interesting ideas and this is my place to share them. I am crazy curious and read more than a kid with no friends and have an opinion about everything. This place is my voice, and I’m glad you stopped by to listen.

Social media platforms banning Trump is a pretty big deal and it goes beyond preventing further violence. It has business implications. I talked with Sourcestream about it last week when I was a guest host on Just The Facts with Blake Rutherford.

The fact that Trump has been suspended from all major social media networks is a big deal. On Friday’s episode of Just the Facts, Blake and Emily talked exte...

I spoke with KARK yesterday about the unprecedented moves by Twitter and Facebook to block posts by President Trump. Because he has been so reliant on those channels, the suspension basically muted him. It is a lesson in not putting all your communications into the hands of social platforms that you do not own, something I've long preached about as a digital marketer. Social media is great, but you need to diversify your channels because any one of those platforms can go away at any time. I'll be interested to watch what happens as niche channels grow as a result of these moves by Twitter and Facebook.

President trump posted a video message on Twitter Thursday night, saying he is focused on “ensuring a smooth, orderly and seamless transition of power.” The tweet is his first since his…

Email newsletters are having a big moment. I've rounded up a few of my favorites in this post. What newsletters do you recommend?

I’ve rounded up my current favorite newsletters — the ones I always open, always read, and usually find something interesting to learn more about with a click-through. My subscriptions are constantly fluctuating, and I am always looking for new ones, but these are my favorites of the moment.

I have a thing for gear. Gear of all kinds — arts and crafts, computers, barware, kitchen gadgets, and in this case, camera and photography gear. While I tend to be a super-organized person, my collection of gear in my small house can be a problem. I have stuff tucked away everywhere and getting something out becomes a production in itself. Now that I am needing to regularly access my camera and photography gear for the new podcast, the process of rearranging a room to access it is not the most efficient use of time. Enter one of my geekiest ideas yet: create my own A/V cart. http://readerwriterseeker.com/blog/2020/6/23/my-home-av-cartEmilyReevesDean,DigitalMarketingSpecialist

Now that you’ve brainstormed the content ideas and mapped out what you are going to post about and when, it is time to create the content. There is a lot to think about when you start actually creating the content for social media. The words you use, the number of characters per post, the image or graphic, the video, the link. And on top of all of that, for one content “topic,” you have to create multiple post versions to customize that content for each channel. It would be so much easier if you could just create it once and share that across all of the channels! And many people do that — including me sometimes! But when you do that, you are not maximizing the performance of that content. http://readerwriterseeker.com/blog/2019/8/28/its-time-to-create-the-contentEmilyReevesDean,DigitalMarketingSpecialist
