Rocchetta Mattei is a fortress built in the second half of the 19th century, which eclectically mixes different styles, from medieval to Moorish; it is located on the northern Apennines, on a rise set 407 meters above sea level, in Savignano, in the municipality of Grizzana Morandi, in the metropolitan city of Bologna, on state road No. 64 Porrettana.
La Rocchetta was the home of Count Cesare Mattei (1809-1896), a scholar, politician and self-taught physician who was the founder of electromeopathy, a practice based on homeopathy. Dostoevskji mentions the count in The Brothers Karamazov, when he has the devil tell how he was able to recover from terrible rheumatism thanks to a book and Count Mattei's drops.
