Just a few little journal prompts for you all as we go into this weekend … 🧠 📝

Training the mind is just as important as working on the physical! For student-athletes this is often not the message that we hear… so here I am encouraging you to DO THE WORK!

Wow… what a year it has been 🤩

I’m not normally one for the year in review posts but after the Holistic Beauty Wrapped… I couldn’t help but wonder what this year as a whole has looked like.

While in the moment, life can have its ups and downs, it is so refreshing to look back on the many incredible things that happened during 2024🙌🏼

Starting with January: ❄️
This year we got a BUNCH of snow in January and it made my heart so happy! We baked, we had cozy movie nights and just the most fun in the snow.

February: 🩷
This year I had the opportunity to return to Peru and serve in many different communities. We served through sport and it was not only so impactful to see our work in the communities but equally as incredible for us to grow together as a soccer team. One special moment from this trip was that I got to reconnect with 2 little boys who I had met on my previous trip. It was wild to see how much they have grown in just 2 years!

March: 🍀
I couldn’t not have my greens during the month of March! I had to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day somehow haha! Aside from the daily dose of greens, I was so fortunate to be able to return to an equine therapy centre that my sister and I had once attended (18 years ago or so) and serve as a volunteer. This was such a full circle experience and I loved every moment of it!

April: 💦
April was a full month… the end of the semester studies (with my grandmothers beautiful cabinet all lit up in the background), downtown dinner dates with friends, and my first interaction with permanent jewellery (where my teammates and I got matching bracelets to celebrate her grad).

May: 🌸
May meant MEXICO! Landon and I travelled with one other couple and we just had the best time! Sun, dancing and so many laughs :) May also meant that school was done for the semester so more time to work on my creative projects, work my Arbonne business and gaze at the amazing Northern Lights in the backyard!

June: ☀️
This month was one for the books! We celebrated our friends getting married AND I officially launched my permanent jewellery biz - Holistic Beauty. So much fun for one month!

Although I’m no sleep expert… these 3 little hacks have helped me to improve my sleep quality over the past few months 💤

1. Screens before bed is the most difficult habit to break in my personal experience. It’s soooo easy to sit there and scroll as you catch up on the news from the day. As much as I enjoy this … I have found that I physically, emotionally and spiritually feel EVEN BETTER when I read my books before bed. Whether I’m reading a story from the bible or a brainless novel… I have found that creating space from the screen is a great way to decompress before a good nights rest.

2. Magnesium supplements - again… I am no doctor here but magnesium has been an awesome addition to my bedtime routine. Magnesium has been shown to support better and longer sleep times and I personally have had a great experience in using it!

3. Lastly, gratitude … one of my most favourite practices that I’ve been working through over the past few years. Simply taking a few mins each day to think about the good that has occurred in the day is such an easy but impactful way to positively switch your mindset… giving you all the good vibes as you dose off to sleep!

Give these a try and let me know your tips for better sleep in the comments below ⬇️

5 Nutrition and Hydration Facts that EVERY Student Athlete Should Know …

1. I know what you’re thinking … pickle juice and mustard … REALLY? While there aren’t 1000’s of articles that will scientifically back this up… these electrolyte dense staples have saved me time and time again. The science is simply based upon the balance of salt in our bodies when we are exercising. If we are sweating immensely, we lose salts. If we lose enough, we may begin to cramp. It is in this quick burst of electrolytes from the mustard packet or the pickle jar that pick us back up and allow us to keep going!

2. While I LOVE protein shakes for their convenience, I will always recommend seeking protein from food sources over supplemental forms. Not only will you then receive the highest form of protein but you will equally consume all of the essential amino acids that our bodies need (in that certain protein powders lack the ability to provide all of these ingredients). Chicken breast, eggs and Greek yogurt are some of my personal favourite protein sources in case you’re wondering :)

3. Ahhh coffee. Let me start by saying that I’m not here to convince you to quit your coffee grind. I enjoy a lovely latte every now and then and I absolutely understand the draw for many caffeine consumers. However … coffee is not the best drink of choice when hydration is your goal. Hydration not only helps with circulation and nutrient absorption but equally it serves to cushion our joints. This can specifically effect our speed and flexibility which are two extremely important elements in sport. With all that to say… I encourage you to swap out the odd coffee for an extra bottle of water in a day and reflect upon how this change can make you feel.
