For anyone following my African Milk Tree Cactus wound, it has been improving! It is now reduced to a small "lump" the size of dime and appears to be very slowly dissipating and no longer hurts. I continue to apply the Triamcinolone Acetonide cream, which seems to be doing the job! Here are the latest pictures of my "wound / bite" from the cactus. At this point it looks worse than it feels!

Good Evening Fellow Enthusiasts!

As you probably know (from previous posts) I am recuperating from a "battle" with my African Milk Tree Cactus! Although the cactus kicked my butt....it appears I will be victorious in the end!

My Doctor agreed that the "Wound inflicted by my AMT, was resolving). I explained my procedure: 1. remove the thorn, 2. flush with peroxide, 3. coat with Triple Antibiotic Ointment. After a few days, I then, 1. washed it good (with soap & water), 2. peroxided it once again and 3. Applied TRIAMCINOLONE ACETONIDE 0.025%. The brand name of this chemical compound is: ARISTOCORT, ARISTOCORT HP, KENALOG, TRIDERM AND NASACORT. All of these are made up from (Try-am-synalone a-set-own-ide) / Triamcinolone Acetonide 0.025%. This cream compound is in the process of resolving the wound. It has removed the oozing/blistering/swelling and the redness, which are finally dissipating. The stinging irritation has ceased and I am on the mend.

The Doctor was going to prescribe the very same cream that I was already using (thanks to a dear friend).

This compound is also good for: eczema, dermatitis, allergies, swelling and rash! All of which have resolved, thanks to the cream!

So, once again, PLEASE be careful with the small black barbs and especially the milk sap put out by the African Milk Tree Cactus (Euphorbia trigona)!!!

Please notice ALL the systems that I described, appear in the photo. The hole in my arm (with the dark stuff in it), is where the "barb" was embedded. So Enjoy, enjoy but be careful!!!

Good Morning! Per my previous posts the wound caused by being stuck by my African Milk Tree Cactus is somewhat better but not resolving! I have tried topical anti-biotic creme and another medical creme with steroids etc.; however, it is time to call for an appointment. The last time this happened a course of anti-biotics (taken orally), resolved the issue and I am hoping it will do it with this incident. So, once again BE CAREFUL when close to or handling your African Milk Trees! Of course, it may just be that I am "allergic to the plant"! I will keep you posted.

06/10/2024

OK, today is 10-6-2024, the day AFTER I was stuck by my African Milk Tree (cactus) and yes IT HURT! Today I have all the systems stated as to the result of being stuck: it hurts, swollen, red, blistered and some oozing. However, today it does not hurt as bad as yesterday. The area effected is about 1 1/2" X 2 1/2". It may feel somewhat better today but doesn't LOOK any better today!

I have been using Triple Antibiotic Ointment; however, it doesn't seem to be alleviating the systems, I am going in to read what the net has to say about "treatment".

Once again, please be careful if you have African Milk Tree cacti...especially if they are large and "unwieldly" it will get you and those black barbs are nasty!

Hello Fellow Enthusiasts! I had to take some time to let you know that Euphorbia trigona the (African Milk Tree) is quite NASTY, IF you have the bad luck to be stuck by those black barbs! The last time I had one stuck in my thumb and ended up taking a course of Antibiotics as I developed an infection!!

Today, I was cleaning my plant porch and tried to move my 5' branched Euphorbia trigona (African Milk Tree) and unfortunately it fell against my forearm and "embedded" another black barb in the muscle. I found it like an hour later and pulled it out; however, the area is now irritated, red and slightly swollen and burns and stings.

I washed it out good, peroxided it and put triple antibiotic ointment on it. I am writing this to make everyone aware that these cacti are nasty and to be very careful or it will bite you! I also noticed that the plant was also oozing white sap, but luckily, I got none on me.

The milky sap found in the African milk tree contains a potent mix of diterpenes, phorbol esters, and other irritants. These chemicals can cause severe skin irritation, rash, and even blistering upon contact (which I have).

Ingestion of the sap can lead to vomiting, diarrhea, and in severe cases, death. Not Good! This goes for humans and animals.

Common Name: African Milk Tree Poisonous
Scientific Name: Euphorbia trigona
Toxic Parts: Milky sap

Hopefully my arm will be back to normal by tomorrow, I will keep you all posted. Be Careful Out There!

Here are photos of my "germinated" Albuca spiralis (frizzle sizzle plants). I put these in a brown bag and placed them in my cellarway until last week. Took them out, refreshed the soil, watered them good and stuck them outside as the temperature was around 50°F which "triggered" the bulbs to germinate. I am hoping they get bigger and thicker this year. I purchased these in early 2023, so this is their 2nd season. They are on the "pricey" side. I believe I bought them from ETSY for around 17 usd per plant. So, I feel justified since they have germinated again!

Good Morning Fellow Enthousiasts! I have brought in ALL my plants for the Winter and my cacti continue to bloom with beautiful bright yellow flowers! This is so unusual for me as they rarely if never bloom. I believe spending the Summer (outside) did them a world of good! They developed a dark green colour (after blanching to a whiteish hue). I am assuming this was them adapting to the new environment. Once that was done, they all did very well. Also I have brought the Albuca spiralis (out of the storage cellarway), put them outside and that has now triggered them to generate from their bulbs (as they need below 50°F temps to trigger germination from the bulb). They are now inside and doing well. See a separate post for photos of the frizzle sizzle plants, as I didn't get them attached to this post!

Good Afternoon Fellow Plant Enthusiasts! I have all the plants INSIDE! Now I must watch as I move through the house! Even though they no longer have "unlimited" access to rain, sun and wind, some have continued to bloom. My purple passion plants and a few cacti....here are some photos for your perusal:

Good Morning fellow "flora folks"! Most everything has been brought into the house so I now share living space with a Forest! In addition the deck has been scrubbed and washed. There are still a few containers etc. that have to be put away.

Today I harvested a large flower pot with potatoes growing in it. I realized a crop of 5.2 lbs (not bad for about 5 gallons of space)! All were good none rotted or damaged. So, I will be sharing with my "flora pals, friends and family". It is good to know WE can still grow food (if required) and it is fresh and pesticide free and organic. Here are the photos with explanations:

Good Afternoon Ya'll! Today I emptied a 5 gallone bucket in which I had planted Red Onions. Unfortunately, the yield was "lackluster" to say the least. The "round onion" ended up looking like large cloves of Garlic!!! and one of them had rotted! So, here are a few pictures of the yield from the 5 gallon bucket.

I have a few more buckets of them AND two buckets of potatos that have LOTS of foliage, let's hope there are a lot of taters! I will keep you posted.
