EL NIÑO IS STRENGTHENING — BUT WINTER IS ALREADY RAISING RED FLAGS. 🌡️🌧️
South Africa is only halfway through winter, yet much of the country has been unusually warm, while key parts of the winter rainfall region remain too dry.
With an 81% chance of a very strong El Niño later this year, the biggest risk heading into summer is clear: more heat, faster drying and greater pressure on water, crops, livestock and veldfire conditions.
This winter may already be shaping how vulnerable we are by summer.

When we moved into our unloved 1955 Clovelly home in 2020 it was cold and dreary. Alterations had been made as tenants requested them, nothing was cohesive. Initially, we spent money on practical things like replacing the asbestos roof and installing a solar geyser. It took a while for us to get going on the inside, adopting a room-by-room approach.
