Earlier today, the County Secretary Ms. Grace Munguti accompanied by the Chief Officer, Agriculture and Food Security Ms. Damaris Mativo, the Chief Officer Cooperative Development Ms. Mwikali Muthoka and the Chief Officer Finance and Revenue Ms. Catherine Ngarachu flagged off farm inputs meant to cushion farmers affected by the desert locust invasion. The products have been procured through the partnership between the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and Machakos County. Among the items to be distributed are 400 tarpaulins, 500 bags of chick feed and 2500 doses of chicken vaccines. The items will be distributed in 20 wards as shown in the attached list. Also present was the regional FAO Livelihood Recovery Expert, Mr. Kennedy Lagat.

Today, the Minister for Agriculture, Food Security and Cooperative Development Hon, Urbanus Musyoka accompanied H. E. Dr. Alfred Mutua and H.E. Luke Williams Australian High Commissioner to Kenya during the commissioning of the Best Tropical Fruits Village Processing Hub in Kasolongo Village, Masii ward of Mwala Sub County, in Machakos County. The Hub processes and export: dried mango crisps; banana crisps, mango pulp, avocado oil, peanut oil, mango juice, macadamia oil and high protein livestock feeds from mangoes, macadamia and avocados.
The visiting team was accompanied by among others, Damaris Mativo and Mwikali Muthoka the Chief Officers for Agriculture and Food Security and Cooperative Development respectively

Today, the Minister for Agriculture, Food Security and Cooperative Development Mr. Urbanus Musyoka attended public participation exercise on rehabilitation of Nzewani waterpan in Katangi ward, Yatta Sub county. The project will be undertaken through Kenya Climate Smart Agriculture Project (KCSAP) which is County Government of Machakos Project in partnership with State Department of Agriculture and World Bank.

The water pan will be used for irrigation and provide drinking water to livestock in ward. It will serve a population of about 800 households.

Today, the Minister for Agriculture, Food Security and Cooperative Development Mr. Urbanus Musyoka attended public participation exercise on rehabilitation of Kamu irrigation scheme in Kibauni ward, Mwala Sub county. The project will be undertaken through Kenya Climate Smart Agriculture Project (KCSAP) which is County Government of Machakos Project in partnership with State Department of Agriculture and World Bank. The Minister also visited banana plantation and other projects being implemented within the scheme.
