Six writers visited me at Rutan-Becket this week! They’re all members of a writer/mom Artist Residency in Motherhood group I run over on FB. Can’t wait to host more Staten Island writers in the coming months. This house is such a gem and I’m so grateful and happy to share it. Stay tuned!

A reading of work made by mothers at home during the pandemic. These six writers represent a community of mothers nationwide who co-participate in self-directed writing residencies at home, inspired by "Artist Residency in Motherhood" ( ). Each writer will also read the work of another ARIMer including Minna Dubin, Catherine LaSota, Meg Leonard, Sarah McColl, Chloe Yelena Miller, and Kristin Pitanza.

Also visit a new onsite gallery presenting the exhibition "Rooted in Place" by local artist , whose work addresses the icon of the home.

Guest performance of "Black Moon Lilith" by local singer-songwriter Jennie Young.

DETAILS

The Rutan-Becket House is located in Tottenville at the Conference House Park. Ample parking is available in the Visitors Center at the end of Hylan Blvd, a ten-minute walk to the house. Closer parking is available at the Biddle House (70 Satterlee Street) but the lot is small. There is also street parking.

All participants 12+ must be vaccinated as per the NYC vaccine mandate to enter the Rutan-Becket House, and masks must be worn inside.

This event is organized with generous support from the NYC Artist Corps by Stella Fiore, host of Cut + Paste on Staten Island's Maker Park Radio and the inaugural Rutan-Becket Writer in Residence at Conference House Park, sponsored by Culturbia. This event is also funded in part by Poets & Writers through public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, in partnership with the City Council.
