At the time of writing, the world is starting to emerge from the self-imposed social distancing measures implemented in response to the COVID-19. Countries all over Europe are starting to revert back to a life that was once thought gone when COVID-19 was declared a worldwide pandemic by WHO in March, with cafes sprawling with visitors in masks, soccer leagues such as Spain’s La Liga, Italy’s Serie A, and England’s Premier League resuming play, and a general sense of optimism that Europe may have finally left the worst of the pandemic behind them, with the latest data indicating declining rates of cases. So, for those of you who are craving some of our older, research oriented content, I decided to upload my term paper last year exploring the relationship between education and anti-immigrant sentiment. Hope you find it an interesting read! As always, feel free to leave any feedback in the comments section below. Introduction The history of the United States has often been praised as being one that, one the face of it, many paint as being the place where an immigrant can come and make anything of themselves, so long as they are willing to work hard they can give themselves and their children a better life than the one they had. By Andre Lopes Massa Since the collapse of the Tokugawa Shogunate in Japan in 1868 and the restoration of the emperor to power through the reforms of Emperor Meiji, Japan’s foreign and commerce policy began to change radically in the late 1800’s. Determined never to suffer the humiliation that Japan suffered at the hands of Western powers in the later years of the Tokugawa period, the Meiji regime introduced the Oath of 1868 that claimed to “lay down the foundations of the Empire.” Early in the new regime, Japan was determined to “Westernize” in every way possible, from internal democratic reforms within the government to mimic Western European structures to an aggressive foreign policy driven by the formation of a national conception of self-identity that formed as a result of the demands attempts at western industrialization placed on the Japanese people. By: Andre Lopes Massa Home is a wonderful place. It’s where you feel accepted and it’s full of the familiar surrounding you’re used to. But, after a time, you may crave something different from the culture you’re used to, but, perhaps because of the uncertainty surrounding leaving the place you’ve known your whole life. Don’t fear that craving. It just means that you have the courage to want to explore the world, take a risk and find out more about yourself and where you’re meant to be. [ 1,308 more word ]

By: Andre Lopes Massa Every grocery-shopping trip always end up with the same dilemma every time we get to the desert section: which flavor of ice cream should we buy? As you begin to look towards the ice cream section, you begin to notice the multitude of ice cream brands and sizes of vanilla, enough to overwhelm you over the minute differences advertised on each carton of ice cream to draw you towards it. By Andre Lopes Massa The Iliad is a remarkable tale of how the lowest points of human emotions end up unifying a population from the sheer feelings of loss and mourning that can occur whether one was Greek or Trojan. By: Andre Lopes Massa The question of truth has always been one approached from multiple angles regarding whether it is something that can be objectively reached or whether it is a subjective construction that can be manipulated through different techniques and forms of writing. Truth can be represented, for Plato, according to the forms that our souls attempt to remember during our lifetime in the human body. [ 2376 more words. ]

Exploring the Psychology of Terror Threat Construction http://wp.me/p2Ypud-sm

By Andre Lopes Massa Since the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York on 9/11, there has been a strong group dynamic regarding the construction of the friend/enemy binary regarding the discourse that surrounds the construction of a terrorist enemy. A rhetoric of American exceptionalism has often been one of the central components of forming this binary as a strong feeling of nationalism has often been at the heart of forming biased assumptions about other relevant groups that project enemy images onto them in a need to protect our own conception of ourselves.
