Today the USA recognizes the Presidents Day holiday. We worked with a couple of presidential libraries on the Raising Her Game docuseries, now streaming on Victory+ Sports. From the Barack Obama Presidential Library, we received video of the 44th chief executive welcoming women’s championship teams for a White House visit. The Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library & Museum provided us with remarkable film footage and photos of the 38th POTUS interacting with football coaches and NCAA executives as they grappled with the implications of Title IX. The Raising Her Game soccer docuseries, now streaming on VICTORY+, covers a lot of historical and theoretical ground. We had a lot of threads to tie together and we needed to figure out what happened in the worlds of soccer and women’s sport from the present day back to more than a century ago.

The 2023 College Gridiron Showcase documentary has some incredible storylines, including:
• The emerging role of women in the sport of American football
• A defensive back on the mend from nerve damage to his neck who decided to attend CGS after the hospitalized Damar Hamlin insisted his friend do so
• A tight end with a massive TikTok following who gave it up to focus on football
• A formerly homeless edge rusher who got to play only two FBS games and whose brother endured a devastating knee injury
• A defensive tackle who carries to every game the last hospital socks his mother wore before her death

One thing we've liked about working with Victory+ Sports is the ability to display an abundance of content within the context of a documentary series. It allows viewers to take deep dives and it also allows them approach it in the way they prefer. In this case, we added vertical videos made up of football-intensive content to our offerings related to the College Gridiron Showcase. We'll hope viewers who discover this content on their phone, or who have a limited amount of available viewing time, or who need insights into the football business will engage with these pieces and then sample our longer-form material, too.

This video interview with Lexi Missimo touches on the past, present, and future of U.S women’s soccer. She has a foot in all of those eras, as we learn in the Raising Her Game docuseries, now streaming on Victory+ Sports. In her parents’ era, men and women had limited soccer opportunities beyond college; she got to play, and excel, for Texas Longhorns Soccer; and now she’ll play for Dallas Trinity FC of the USL Super League and try to earn a spot with U.S. Soccer national teams, too.

This video shows what it looks like when a star player signs a pro contract – in this case, former Texas Longhorns Soccer standout Lexi Missimo joining Dallas Trinity FC earlier this week. Our Raising Her Game docuseries (now streaming on Victory+ Sports) traces the journeys of the sport of soccer and women’s sports in general to get us to the point where a player like her can have this experience. And, as was mentioned by multiple people at Wednesday’s press conference, little soccer-playing girls in DFW and beyond can aspire to do the same someday.

Chris Petrucelli currently serves as the general manager of Dallas Trinity FC in the USL Super League. He announced a big signing yesterday for his soccer club – Lexi Missimo, one of the former Texas Longhorns Soccer players who was a focus of our Raising Her Game documentary series. The docuseries (now streaming for free on Victory+ Sports) covers the history of the game and women’s sports, too, and Petrucelli has some superb perspective on that subject as well. He’s coached at the college and professional levels, including winning a national title at Notre Dame and helping a then-nascent Texas program make its first NCAA tournament. In this interview with RHG director Rush Olson, he talks about Missimo’s potential impact on his current team and how the opportunities for Missimo differ from those of a previous UT All-American who appears in the docuseries.

Today, Dallas Trinity FC announced the signing of former Texas Longhorns Soccer star Lexi Missimo to their USL Super League squad. Her hometown fans will get to see her play as a professional.

Lexi’s journey from youth to club to college soccer, along with that of her sport and women’s sport in general, is chronicled in the Raising Her Game docuseries now streaming on Victory+. The images in this video were gathered in the course of producing the documentary content. Some of Lexi’s noteworthy achievements:

• Texas all-time leader in career points (176), assists (64), & goals (56)

This photo of women engaged in sporting pursuits in the Anna Hiss Gymnasium appears in the Raising Her Game documentary series. The docuseries is about soccer, but that’s not one of the sports shown in the image. So why did it get included? Well, the series also covers the development of women’s sports in general at The University of Texas at Austin and beyond. The researchers at the H.J. Lutcher Stark Center for Physical Culture found it to help the filmmakers illustrate how students used the facility back in the day. Texas Longhorns Soccer players visited the gym during the course of filming and were amazed to learn what a sharp contrast this image presents to both the building’s current function and the way they and their teammates compete today.

The content goes into a deep dive into the history of U.S. soccer and women’s sports and also includes a ton of storytelling around the University of Texas women’s soccer program and current soccer pathways. It features interviews with the likes of Ange Kelly, Jody Conradt, Anson Dorrance, and more. Julie Dobbs narrates the promo and the series.

Category of “another thing we like about Victory+ Sports”: Next time you visit their platform, check out the SHORTS menu. We’ve started to populate it with soccer! You’ll see snackable bonus content from the Raising Her Game documentary project alongside choice ice hockey snippets. These are primarily sound bites from the likes of All-American Lexi Missimo and Basketball Hall of Famer Jody Conradt that didn’t fit into the main series but still included compelling insights. Victory+ suggested adding them here to build engagement and, as storytellers who pride ourselves on recounting a story as completely as possible and enabling deeper dives, we loved that idea.

Lexi Missimo, who starred at The University of Texas at Austin and is one of the featured players in the Raising Her Game docuseries, has been named a semifinalist for the Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy. Vote for her at https://machermanntrophy.com/2024-womens-fan-voting/ and stream the series for free on Victory+ Sports. If the midfielder wins the award, given to the top U.S. college soccer player, it won’t be the first time she’s seen it. Last year, during the course of shooting the documentary, Lexi and teammate Trinity Byars checked out the hardware at the National Soccer Hall of Fame. You’ll hear them mention “Michelle.” They’re referencing KC Current player Michelle Cooper, who won the award at Duke before moving on to the National Women's Soccer League.
