It is with great sadness that Off Grid Wilderness Living announces the end of an era.
After almost a decade in service to our members and the off grid community here on Facebook, Off Grid Wilderness Living is leaving the platform where we started it all.
In the last several months Facebook and it's creator have taken a direction that for OGWL, is finally a bridge too far.
Over the years we have seen signs of what might be issues. The banning of the sales of livestock or even animal by products like wool or eggs, the constant changing of algorithms leading to loss sight of groups and members, the ongoing tracking and targeted advertising and sponsored ads and the inability to deal in a straight forward way with any issues that might arise.
But with the most recent changes in policies, particularly a strong dependence on AI, the removal of fact checking and verification, the allowed flooding of bots and foreign agents while banning actual long time users and the alignment with radical political interests in the US....
OGWL has made the decision to leave this platform.
We have our website https://offgridwildernessliving.com still in place and still growing.
Our social media will now be found at https://thesocialplace.online , a fully functional Facebook style platform that features the same types of profiles, pages and groups without the advertising, without the algorithms and without the open door to hate and misinformation.
We hope you will come to find us at either or ideally both of these outlets. We understand that not everyone will agree with our decision to leave and that moving to a new platform after years in one place is hard.
But we will still be available to you should you ever need us or want resources that we offer.
The group that started it all will be moving forward under a new combo of the current admin team and with a new name. If you aren't already a member there consider taking some time to join and explore the community as they move forward with their new mission!
