It is not looking good for the snow lovers on Tuesday. There's still a small chance for a few flakes but significant snow is not looking likely at this point.

WJZ FIRST ALERT SNOW SCALE: I'm not impressed by what I'm seeing in the data. At the most, a few flakes on Tuesday but won't amount to much. We will let you know if anything changes, but you snow lovers will have to wait a little longer, unfortuately!

Some minor coastal flooding for some tonight and early Saturday but nothing close to what we saw Tuesday night.

One thing we have been lacking lately (since last winter) is sustainable cold air...cold enough to support meaningful wintry precipitation.

We may get that chance next week. Some of our long-range forecast models have been sniffing out the possibility beginning Monday night with chances increasing Tuesday through Tuesday night.

This is something to keep an eye on and we will be monitoring trends in the data through the weekend.

SNOW NEXT WEEK? We are keeping an eye on trends that we've noticed in the forecast models for the period Monday afternoon through Wednesday morning.

A few of the models are hinting at a meaningful accumulating snow during this timeframe. We are still a few days away, but the forecast models have been trending toward a snowier solution for the middle of next week. We shall see.

BTW: The NAM, and GEM (Canadian) aren't in range yet so that's why they show zero. Same with the GRAF as its just coming into range of the timeframe for the expected snow.

Nothing set in stone yet, just something to watch in the coming days!

DANGEROUSLY LOW WIND CHILLS NEXT WEDNESDAY MORNING: With the Arctic air moving in, the lowest wind chills will occur Wednesday morning, where many areas will feel like this single digits.

The cold pattern will stick around for nearly 2 weeks before warming up later in the month.

The latest timeline for the Friday night storm. More wind, more rain and possibly some more flooding.

The latest timeline for the Friday night storm. More wind, more rain and possibly some more flooding.

FRIDAY STORM LATEST TIMING: The way it looks now....rain will move in after dark. This would be after 5pm so 7/8 pm (could be earlier if the storm trends faster).

Window for rain will be from Fri. evening to early Sat. morning. The strongest winds and heaviest rain will occur a couple of hours either side of midnight.

Latest projections give most of the area around 1" of additional rainfall...so not as much as Tues. night's storm.

Still this will aggravate any areas that experienced flooding due to rain from the last storm.

PATTERN CHANGE COMING: It will start to feel like January by the middle of next week.

The potential for damaging wind gusts has increased for Baltimore City and a *HIGH WIND WARNING* is in effect through early Wednesday. Prepare for power disruptions as winds increase this evening and tonight.

The threshold for toppling trees is lower given the recent rains. Therefore in this situation, the concern is greater.

The strongest winds will arrive after 5PM and continue to increase through 8-9 pm before backing off in intensity. Gusts over 40 will continue even after midnight.

*HIGH WIND WARNING* has been expanded to include areas along the western shore of Chesapeake Bay including Baltimore City. Damaging wind gusts to 60 mph are expected later today through early Wednesday. This will blow over trees and down power lines. Expect power outages.

MIDDAY UPDATE.....

The latest update on the start of today's wintry weather.
06/01/2024

The latest update on the start of today's wintry weather.

930 AM UPDATE: The wintry mix is edging closer to the area. The low levels of the atmosphere are still very dry but should moisten up to get the mix going soon.

Temps are at or below freezing west of I-95 and they could drop a couple of degrees once the precipitation starts as a result of a process called "wet-bulbing" where precipitation falling through a dry layer leads to cooling of the air.

The precipitation will become steadier as the morning goes on as temps rise above freezing and start warming a few thousand feet up. This should switch everything over to rain by late morning/early afternoon from south to north.

The most impactful wintry weather will occur from western Maryland east to northwest Carroll & Baltimore Co and into Frederick county where a few inches of snow/sleet could fall. Due to that warming aloft mentioned earlier, some freezing rain will be possible.

Closer to I-95, I don't expect much accumulation before it changes over to all rain.

The storm will move out quickly later this evening.
