Understand the PAN (Permanent
Account Number)
PAN is a 10 digit alpha numeric
number, where the first 5 characters
are letters, the next 4 numbers and
the last one a letter again. These 10
characters can be divided in five
parts as can be seen below. The
meaning of each number has been
explained further.
1. First three characters are
alphabetic series running from AAA to
ZZZ
2. Fourth character of PAN represents
the status of the PAN holder.
• C — Company
• P — Person
• H — HUF(Hindu Undivided Family)
• F — Firm
• A — Association of Persons (AOP)
• T — AOP (Trust)
• B — Body of Individuals (BOI)
• L — Local Authority
• J — Artificial Juridical Person
• G — Government
3. Fifth character represents first
character of the PAN holder’s last
name/surname.
4. Next four characters are sequential
number running from 0001 to 9999.
5. Last character in the PAN is an
alphabetic check digit.

देश में वर्षा का वितरण
अधिक वर्षा वाले क्षेत्र- यहाँ वार्षिक वर्षा की मात्रा 200 सेमी. से अधिक होता है। क्षेत्र- असम, अरुणाचल प्रदेश, मेघालय, सिक्किम, कोंकण, मालाबार तट, दक्षिण कनारा, मणिपुर एवं मेघालय।
साधारण वर्षा वाले क्षेत्र- इस क्षेत्र में वार्षिक वर्षा की मात्रा 100 से 200 सेमी. तक होती है। क्षेत्र- पश्चिमी घाट का पूर्वोत्तर ढाल, पं. बँगाल का दक्षिणी- पश्चिमी क्षेत्र, उड़ीसा, बिहार, दक्षिणी-पूर्वी उत्तर प्रदेश इत्यादि।
न्यून वर्षा वाले क्षेत्र- यहाँ 50 से 100 सेमी. वार्षिक वर्षा होती है। क्षेत्र- मध्य प्रदेश, दक्षिण का पठारी भाग, गुजरात, कर्नाटक, पूर्वी राजस्थान, दक्षिणी पँजाब, हरियाणा तथा दक्षिणी उत्तर प्रदेश।
अपर्याप्त वर्षा वाले क्षेत्र- यहाँ वर्षा 50 सेमी. से भी कम होती है। क्षेत्र- कच्छ, पश्चिमी राजस्थान, लद्दाख आदि।
भूगर्भिक इतिहास
भारत की भूगर्भीय संरचना को कल्पों के आधार पर विभाजित किया गया है। प्रीकैम्ब्रियन कल्प के दौरान बनी कुडप्पा और विंध्य प्रणालियां पूर्वी व दक्षिणी राज्यों में फैली हुई हैं। इस कल्प के एक छोटे काल के दौरान पश्चिमी और मध्य भारत की भी भूगर्भिक संरचना तय हुई। पेलियोजोइक कल्प के कैम्ब्रियन, ऑर्डोविसियन, सिलुरियन और डेवोनियन शकों के दौरान पश्चिमी हिमालय क्षेत्र में कश्मीर और हिमाचल प्रदेश का निर्माण हुआ। मेसोजोइक दक्कन ट्रैप की संरचनाओं को उत्तरी दक्कन के अधिकांश हिस्से में देखा जा सकता है। ऐसा माना जाता है कि इस क्षेत्र का निर्माण ज्वालामुखीय विस्फोटों की वजह से हुआ। कार्बोनिफेरस प्रणाली, पर्मियन प्रणाली और ट्रियाजिक प्रणाली को पश्चिमी हिमालय में देखा जा सकता है। जुरासिक शक के दौरान हुए निर्माण को पश्चिमी हिमालय और राजस्थान में देखा जा सकता है।
टर्शियरी युग के दौरान मणिपुर, नागालैंड, अरुणाचल प्रदेश और हिमालियन पट्टिका में काफी नई संरचनाएं बनी। क्रेटेशियस प्रणाली को हम मध्य भारत की विंध्य पर्वत श्रृंखला व गंगा दोआब में देख सकते हैं। गोंडवाना प्रणाली को हम नर्मदा नदी के विंध्य व सतपुरा क्षेत्रों में देख सकते हैं। इयोसीन प्रणाली को हम पश्चिमी हिमालय और असम में देख सकते हैं। ओलिगोसीन संरचनाओं को हम कच्छ और असम में देख सकते हैं। इस कल्प के दौरान प्लीस्टोसीन प्रणाली का निर्माण ज्वालमुखियों के द्वारा हुआ। हिमालय पर्वत श्रृंखला का निर्माण इंडो-ऑस्ट्रेलियन और यूरेशियाई प्लेटों के प्रसार व संकुचन से हुआ है। इन प्लेटों में लगातार प्रसार की वजह से हिमालय की ऊँचाई प्रतिवर्ष 1 सेमी. बढ़ रही है।
भारतीय प्लेट: भारत पूरी तरह से भारतीय प्लेट पर स्थित है। यह एक प्रमुख टेक्टोनिक प्लेट है जिसका निर्माण प्राचीन महाद्वीप गोंडवानालैंड के टूटने से हुआ है। लगभग 9 करोड़ वर्ष पूर्व उत्तर क्रेटेशियस शक के दौरान भारतीय प्लेट ने उत्तर की ओर लगभग 15 सेमी प्रति वर्ष की दर से गति करना आरंभ कर दिया। सेनोजोइक कल्प के इयोसीन शक के दौरान लगभग 5 से 5.5 करोड़ वर्ष पूर्व यह प्लेट एशिया से टकराई। 2007 में जर्मन भूगर्भशास्त्रियों ने बताया कि भारतीय प्लेट के इतने तेजी से गति करने का सबसे प्रमुख कारण इसका अन्य प्लेटों की अपेक्षा काफी पतला होना था। हाल के वर्र्षों में भारतीय प्लेट की गति लगभग 5 सेमी. प्रतिवर्ष है। इसकी तुलना में यूरेशियाई प्लेट की गति मात्र 2 सेमी प्रतिवर्ष ही है। इसी वजह से भारत को च्फास्टेस्ट कांटीनेंटज् की संज्ञा दी गई है।

जल राशि
भारत में लगभग 14,500 किमी. आंतरिक नौपरिवहन योग्य जलमार्ग हैं। देश में कुल 12 नदियां ऐसी हैं जिन्हें बड़ी नदियों की श्रेणी में रखा जा सकता है। इन नदियों का कुल अपवाह क्षेत्रफल 2,528,000 वर्ग किमी. है। भारत की सभी प्रमुख नदियां निम्नलिखित तीन क्षेत्रों से निकलती हैं-
1. हिमालय या काराकोरम श्रृंखला
2. मध्य भारत की विंध्य और सतपुरा श्रृंखला
3. पश्चिमी भारत में साह्यïद्री अथवा पश्चिमी घाट
हिमालय से निकलने वाली नदियों को यहां के ग्लेशियरों से जल प्राप्त होता है। इनकी खास बात यह है कि पूरे वर्ष इन नदियों में जल रहता है। अन्य दो नदी प्रणालियां पूरी तरह से मानसून पर ही निर्भर हैं और गर्मी के दौरान छोटी नदियां मात्र बन कर रह जाती हैं। हिमालय से पाकिस्तान बह कर जाने वाली नदियों में सिंधु, ब्यास, चिनाब, राबी, सतलुज और झेलम शामिल हैं।
गंगा-ब्रह्म्ïापुत्र प्रणाली का जल अपवाह क्षेत्र सबसे ज्यादा 1,100,000 वर्ग किमी. है। गंगा का उद्गम स्थल उत्तरांचल के गंगोत्री ग्लेशियर से है। यह दक्षिण-पूर्व दिशा में बहते हुए बंगाल की खाड़ी में जाकर गिरती है। ब्रह्म्ïापुत्र नदी का उद्गम स्थल तिब्बत में है और अरुणाचल प्रदेश में यह भारत में प्रवेश करती है। यह पश्चिम की ओर बढ़ते हुए बांग्लादेश में गंगा से मिल जाती है।
पश्चिमी घाट दक्कन की सभी नदियों का स्रोत है। इसमें महानदी, गोदावरी, कृष्णा और कावेरी नदियां शामिल हैं। ये सभी नदियां बंगाल की खाड़ी में गिरती हैं। भारत की कुल 20 फीसदी जल अपवाह इन नदियों के द्वारा ही होता है।
भारत की मुख्य खाडिय़ों में कांबे की खाड़ी, कच्छ की खाड़ी और मन्नार की खाड़ी शामिल हैं। जल संधियों में पाल्क जलसंधि है जो भारत और श्रीलंका को अलग करती है, टेन डिग्री चैनल अंडमान को निकोबार द्वीपसमूह से अलग करता है और ऐट डिग्री चैनल लक्षद्वीप और अमिनदीवी द्वीपसमूह को मिनीकॉय द्वीप से अलग करता है। महत्वपूर्ण अंतरीपों में भारत की मुख्यभूमि के धुर दक्षिण भाग में स्थित कन्याकुमारी, इंदिरा प्वाइंट (भारत का धुर दक्षिण हिस्सा), रामा ब्रिज और प्वाइंट कालीमेरे शामिल हैं। अरब सागर भारत के पश्चिमी किनारे पर पड़ता है, बंगाल की खाड़ी और हिंद महासागर भारत के क्रमश: पूर्वी और दक्षिणी भाग में स्थित हैं। छोटे सागरों में लक्षद्वीप सागर और निकोबार सागर शामिल हैं। भारत में चार प्रवाल भित्ति क्षेत्र हैं। ये चार क्षेत्र अंडमान और निकोबार द्वीपसमूह, मन्नार की खाड़ी, लक्षद्वीप और कच्छ की खाड़ी में स्थित हैं। महत्वपूर्ण झीलों में चिल्क झील (उड़ीसा में स्थित भारत की सबसे बड़ी साल्टवाटर झील), आंध्र प्रदेश की कोल्लेरू झील, मणिपुर की लोकतक झील, कश्मीर की डल झील, राजस्थान की सांभर झील और केरल की सस्थामकोट्टा झील शामिल हैं।

प्राकृतिक संसाधन
भारत के कुल अनुमानित पुनर्नवीनीकृत जल संसाधन 1,907.8 किमी.घन प्रति वर्ष हैं। भारत में प्रतिवर्ष 350 अरब घन मी. प्रयोग योग्य भूमि जल की उपलब्धता है। कुल 35 फीसदी भूमिजल संसाधनों का ही उपयोग किया जा रहा है। देश की प्रमुख नदियों व जल मार्र्गों से प्रतिवर्ष 4.4 करोड़ टन माल ढोया जाता है। भारत की 56 फीसदी भूमि खेती योग्य है और कृषि के लिए प्रयोग की जाती है।
एक मोटे अनुमान के अनुसार भारत में 5.4 अरब बैरल कच्चे तेल के भंडार हैं। इनमें से अधिकांश बांबे हाई, अपर असम, कांबे, कृष्णा-गोदावरी और कावेरी बेसिन में स्थित हैं। आंध्र प्रदेश, गुजरात और उड़ीसा में लगभग 17 खरब घन फीट प्राकृतिक गैस के भंडार हैं। आंध्र प्रदेश में यूरेनियम के भंडार हैं।
भारत दुनिया का सबसे बड़ा माइका उत्पादक देश है। बैराइट व क्रोमाइट उत्पादन के मामले में भारत का दूसरा स्थान है। कोयले के उत्पादन के मामले में भारत का दुनिया में तीसरा स्थान है, वहीं लौह अयस्क के उत्पादन के मामले में भारत का चौथा स्थान है। यह बॉक्साइट और कच्चे स्टील के उत्पादन के मामले में छठवें स्थान पर है और मैंगनीज अयस्क उत्पादन के मामले में सातवें स्थान पर है। अल्म्युनियम उत्पादन के मामले में इसका आठवां स्थान है। भारत में टाइटेनियम, हीरे और लाइमस्टोन के भी भंडार प्रचुर मात्रा में हैं। भारत में दुनिया के 24 फीसदी थोरियम भंडार मौजूद हैं।

नमभूमि
नमभूमि वह क्षेत्र है जो शुष्क और जलीय इलाके से लेकर कटिबंधीय मानसूनी इलाके में फैली होती है और यह वह क्षेत्र होता है जहां उथले पानी की सतह से भूमि ढकी रहती है। ये क्षेत्र बाढ़ नियंत्रण में प्रभावी हैं और तलछट कम करते हैं। भारत में ये कश्मीर से लेकर प्रायद्वीपीय भारत तक फैले हैं। अधिकांश नमभूमि प्रत्यक्ष या अप्रत्यक्ष तौर पर नदियों के संजाल से जुड़ी हुई हैं। भारत सरकार ने देश में संरक्षण के लिए कुल 71 नमभूमियों का चुनाव किया है। ये राष्ट्रीय पार्र्कों व विहारों के हिस्से हैं। कच्छ वन समूचे भारतीय समुद्री तट पर परिरक्षित मुहानों, ज्वारीय खाडिय़ों, पश्च जल क्षार दलदलों और दलदली मैदानों में पाई जाती हैं। देश में कच्छ क्षेत्रों का कुल क्षेत्रफल 4461 वर्ग किमी. है जो विश्व के कुल का 7 फीसदी है। भारत में मुख्य रूप से कच्छ वन अंडमान व निकोबार द्वीपसमूह, सुंदरबन डेल्टा, कच्छ की खाड़ी और महानदी, गोदावरी और कृष्णा नदियों के डेल्टा पर स्थित हैं। महाराष्ट्र, कर्नाटक और केरल के कुछ क्षेत्रों में भी कच्छ वन स्थित हैं।
सुंदरबन डेल्टा दुनिया का सबसे बड़ा कच्छ वन है। यह गंगा के मुहाने पर स्थित है और पं. बंगाल और बांग्लादेश में फैला हुआ है। यहां के रॉयल बंगाल टाइगर प्रसिद्ध हैं। इसके अतिरिक्त यहां विशिष्ट प्राणि जात पाये जाते हैं।

भारत की प्रमुख जनजातियां
भारत में जनजातीय समुदाय के लोगों की काफी बड़ी संख्या है और देश में 50 से भी अधिक प्रमुख जनजातीय समुदाय हैं। देश में रहने वाले जनजातीय समुदाय के लोग नेग्रीटो, ऑस्ट्रेलॉयड और मंगोलॉयड प्रजातियों से सम्बद्ध हैं। देश की प्रमुख जनजातियां निम्नलिखित हैं-
आंध्र प्रदेश: चेन्चू, कोचा, गुड़ावा, जटापा, कोंडा डोरस, कोंडा कपूर, कोंडा रेड्डी, खोंड, सुगेलिस, लम्बाडिस, येलडिस, येरुकुलास, भील, गोंड, कोलम, प्रधान, बाल्मिक।
असम व नगालैंड: बोडो, डिमसा गारो, खासी, कुकी, मिजो, मिकिर, नगा, अबोर, डाफला, मिशमिस, अपतनिस, सिंधो, अंगामी।
झारखण्ड: संथाल, असुर, बैगा, बन्जारा, बिरहोर, गोंड, हो, खरिया, खोंड, मुंडा, कोरवा, भूमिज, मल पहाडिय़ा, सोरिया पहाडिय़ा, बिझिया, चेरू लोहरा, उरांव, खरवार, कोल, भील।
महाराष्ट्र: भील, गोंड, अगरिया, असुरा, भारिया, कोया, वर्ली, कोली, डुका बैगा, गडावास, कामर, खडिया, खोंडा, कोल, कोलम, कोर्कू, कोरबा, मुंडा, उरांव, प्रधान, बघरी।
पश्चिम बंगाल: होस, कोरा, मुंडा, उरांव, भूमिज, संथाल, गेरो, लेप्चा, असुर, बैगा, बंजारा, भील, गोंड, बिरहोर, खोंड, कोरबा, लोहरा।
हिमाचल प्रदेश: गद्दी, गुर्जर, लाहौल, लांबा, पंगवाला, किन्नौरी, बकरायल।
मणिपुर: कुकी, अंगामी, मिजो, पुरुम, सीमा।
मेघालय: खासी, जयन्तिया, गारो।
