May the Fourth be with you!!!

To celebrate Star Wars day, we’re kicking off an entire month of content from a galaxy far far away!! For episode 66 of the Steal My Name podcast we’re taking a look at the two films that represent the best and the worst of the Disney era, Rogue One and Solo. These films serve as excellent examples of what we, as fans, want out of Star Wars on the big screen, and what the studio thinks we want. Can you guess which one is which? Tune in to find out!

Star Trek Deep Space Nine season 3, episode 21, The Die is Cast, brings this two parter to a close with an absolute bang! It’s a battle of wills between Garak and Odo wherein they end up learning they’re much more similar than either realized. Oh, and the Dominion shows how much a threat they really are to the future of the Alpha Quadrant. So good!!

Be sure to like, subscribe, follow, share, stay hydrated, call a friend, call your siblings, take care of your brain, and trust in the Force!!!

New episode is live!!!

After 80 plus years of storytelling, we all have a different idea of what a Batman movie should be. Are you a fan of the video games? Do you live and die for Frank Millers take on the character? Are you ride or die for the animated series? For episode 65 of the Steal My Name podcast, we’re diving into what may be the most comic accurate (The New 52 run of comics to be exact) Dark Knight we’ve had yet.

Matt Reeves The Batman (2022) came out at a time when DC movies on the big screen were in a state of total disarray, so many folks may have overlooked it. But if you give a chance, the rain soaked streets of Gotham have a lot to offer.

Deep Space Nine, season 3, episode 20, Improbable Cause, hits hard right out the gate and washes away some of the Mirror Universe stank from last week. Garak steps into the limelight and teams up with Odo to solve a mystery that gets grander and more perilous at every turn. And it’s an unexpected two-parter!

Be sure to like, subscribe, follow, share, stay hydrated, call a friend, call your siblings, take care of your brain, and most of all, enjoy!

Once upon a time people weren’t mad at the MCU. Crazy right? What better way to celebrate a holiday about a person rising from the grave than to look back on of the great heroes to ever take a nap and then jump up ready to kick ass. That’s right, for episode 64 of the Steal My Name Podcast we’re picking up the shield and charging into battle with, what may be, the best MCU film, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. From the 70’s political thriller vibe, to the ever increasing interconnectivity, to the sheer badassness that is the super soldier himself finally getting to kick some serious ass. It’s a classic from start to finish.

Deep Space Nine, season 3, episode 19, Through the Looking Glass, takes us back into the mirror universe and the results are… mixed. The mirror universe storyline was never one that hooked me but there are some fun moments to be had. Keep an eye out for a familiar face from Star Trek: Voyager!

Start the week off right with a new episode of the Steal My Name Podcast!!!

With the passing of Val Kilmer, we lost a true legend of the silver screen. Whether he was Batman, Iceman, Mad Martigan, or teaching us how to steal a scene in this weeks film, his presence on screen is one that will never be forgotten. To celebrate his legacy, we’re looking at one of the great westerns of the last 30 years, and a study in stealing a scene from some of the best in the business. That’s right, we’re taking a trip to Tombstone, so come along for episode 63 of the Steal My Name Podcast, and be our huckleberry.

Deep Space Nine, season 3, episode 18, Distant Voices, indulges in one Treks more silly standards, the “it’s all in their head” episodes. This time it’s Doctor Bashier’s turn to take a run through the rat maze that is his own mind. It’s good silly fun with a scene stealing turn (see… I can stay on message) from everyone’s favourite Cardassian, Garak!

New episode of the Steal My Name podcast is up!!

As long as we’ve been making movies people have been writing about them. From the industry trades, to fan magazines, to entertainment television shows. Whether critically or callously, film reporting has been an important part of the cinema going experience. For episode 62 of the Steal My Name podcast, we’re taking a look at the media around the media we take in, and how that has changed in the age of the internet. Specifically through the lens of the 1995 film, Waterworld. So trim your sails, clean out your gills, and join in as we discuss how the reporting around a movie can impact our viewing experience and the films legacy.

DS9, season 3, episode 17, Visionary, does one of the things that DS9 does best; let’s mess with O’Brien! It’s been a while since Chief O’Brien has been made to suffer and this episode puts him through his paces. All the while he is trying to figure out what is causing him to slip through time (yep!) and if those pesky Romulans are up to pesky Romulan business.

Be sure to like, subscribe, follow, share, show a friend, take care of yourselves, take care of each other, and most of all enjoy!

For episode 61 of the Steal My Name Podcast, we’re getting down right academic and talking about mythology building. When it comes to horror sequels there is a desire (for both business and creative reasons) to try and world build as the series progresses. This can be risky business. Sometimes we get a mixed up mythology that contradicts itself from film to film. Sometimes we get Hellbound: Hellraiser 2, a film that is a master class in how to add both back story to characters and how to expand mythology without falling on ones face.

Deep Space Nine brings the Ferangi back into the spotlight with season 3, episode 16, Prophet Motive. What is Quark to do when the Grand Nagus trades in greed for charity and giving? Try and find out what’s wrong with him of course! The series long redemption of the Ferangi gets a major leap forward in this excellent episode.

For episode 60 of the Steal My Name Podcast I’m setting out to do two things. The first is to give George A. Romero’s two most contentious living dead flicks, Diary of the Dead & Survival of the Dead, a fair appraisal. And point the second, argue that while it was made before the previous two films, Land of the Dead should be considered as the third film in this new trilogy. Make sense? Great!

It’s three movies this week for the big 60! Does Diary of the Dead have some positives hiding underneath all that found footage? Is it possible that Survival of the Dead is way better than once assumed? Does moving Land of the Dead to a trilogy ender clear up the few problems your ghoulish host had with the film? Tune in to find out!

Star Trek Deep Space Nine focuses on Commander Sisko’s struggle with being seen as a religious figure with Season 3, Episode 15, Destiny. Sisko’s battle between his loyalty to Starfleet and his evolving role as a spiritual leader to the Bajoran’s will form a dominant role in his arc across the series and this episode is a pivotal early entry in that struggle.

For episode 59 of we take a look back at the glorious (for the most part) exploitation celebration that was Grindhouse!!

Robert Rodriguez and Quinton Tarantino were at the height of their collective powers in the mid 2000’s and united for a singular goal; create the ultimate exploitation double-bill experience for a new generation of film fans. Together they unleashed Planet Terror and Death Proof and the results were… mixed. Join your host as he dives into the history of the grindhouse, how well these films did or didn’t live up to the assignment, and celebrates this grand experiment in movie making.

Star Trek Deep Space Nine keeps the character episodes coming with Season 3, Episode 14, Heart of Stone. This episodes marks the beginning of an incredible character arc for Nog that will run for the rest of the series. And those pesky Founders are back to mess with Odo.

When one finds themselves buried under a ludicrous amount of snow, there is only one sensible thing to do… watch John Carpenter’s The Thing!!

That’s right, for episode 58 of The Steal My Name Podcast we’re digging our way through all of the reasons that The Thing is an absolute masterpiece. From the immense scale of the landscape, the bonkers effects, and the exploration of the collapse of trust in social groups, join your host (he promises that he hasn’t been taken over and replaced) as he sings the praise of this horror classic.

Deep Space Nine returns to the present and gets back to their bread and butter; Bajoran social and religious politics!! I know, right?? Season 3, episode 13, Life Support, is an excellent exploration of the positive potential of religious selflessness. But in DS9 style, we can’t forget that the evils of power and control are always lurking around the corners.

Like, subscribe, follow, share, get some rest, take care of your head, be good to each other, dress warm, and enjoy!

Valentines day may be the silliest holiday of the year but it is good for one thing; giving us an excuse to talk about holiday horror! Specifically the holiday themed slasher boom of the early 80s.

Steal My Name Episode 57 is going for the heart with the Canuxsploitation classic, My Bloody Valentine. Slick kills? Check. Valentine imagery abound? Check. So Canadian it makes you want to eat a poutine wrapped in a beaver tail and chase it with a Moosehead? Check check!! Join in for a dive into what sets this flick apart from the glut of slashers that ruled the 1981 box office.

Deep Space Nine brings their two part master class to a close with season 3, episode 12, Past Tense Part 2. Seriously… it’s a beast of an episode.

The Steal My Name podcast is back with episode 56!!

This week, we’re looking at dystopian action movies. Demolition Man and Equilibrium present two very different versions of the future but share similar themes once you dig down past the awesome gun play. Whether it’s a Big Brother or an infantilizing of society, we discuss the ways these themes and more are tackled… with guns!

Deep Space Nine gets down right creepy in Season 3, Episode 11, Past Tense Part 1. Transporter/ time travel mishaps are long standing Trek tropes. But DS9 never takes the easy route. The first part of a two-parter takes us to the year 2024 (seriously!!) and shows us a world uncomfortably close to our own.

Be sure to like, subscribe, follow, share, wash your hands, get some sleep, water yourself, take care of your brain, be excellent to each other, and enjoy!

Looking for more of Dawson McManus and I carrying on? Look no further!!!

It’s time for episode 50 of the Steal My Name Podcast!!!!

Can you believe it has been 50 episodes? To celebrate such a momentous occasion, which is also the end of our month of cyberpunk/ noir content, what else could we do but bring back one of our favourite guests, Dawson McManus. After tormenting him with video game adaptations, this time around it’s wall to wall classics with the anime landmarks Akira and Ghost in the Shell. Join us we dive into the wilder elements of these flicks, discuss their impact on the anime landscape, and the usual nonsense that happens when Dawson comes around the Steal My Name offices.
Star Trek Deep Space Nine stays on a great run of character focused episodes with Season 3, episode 5, Second Skin. Our book this week is the first volume in a monumental series celebrating the icons that are, Rush. Martin Popoff’s “Rush Across the Decades” book 1, “Anthem, Rush in the 70’s”, is a warts and all exploration of Canada’s favourite nerd rockers.

“Insert drum roll here” It’s time for episode 50 of the Steal My Name Podcast!!!! Can you believe it has been 50 episodes? To celebrate such a momentous occasion, which is also the end of our month
