GRAMMY voting begins tomorrow, 10.3 🐐

We designed TRANSA the album to be undeniably epic in scope so that any recognition for the project would lift the 100+ artists held together in this expanse of 46 tracks in 8 chapters — some of the most influential artists of our time.

The music industry benefits unendingly from trans artists’ ideas and presence. It’s the season for giving flowers! We’re excited for more listeners to bond with TRANSA during the process of GRAMMY voting; we’re also hopeful to see some nominations that would carry the message of TRANSA — to love without limits, to experience liberation in the frequencies of transness which extend beyond identity. Thank you for reminding voters you know.

Let’s see more trans artists win some GRAMMYs this year ;) Follow ⭐️

Some of TRANSA’s first listeners took the spiritual journey of the album last year together at TONES: Paris.

Eight chapters are designed to reflect the process of deciding to live as one’s self: Womb of the Soul, Survival, Dark Night, Awakening, Grief, Acceptance, Liberation, Reinvention.

Listeners who haven’t focused much on their own gender identities have shared with us how the experience of TRANSA brings new understanding of our connections to one another, beyond language and despite systems that fail us; we hear also from trans and non-binary elders who feel nourished by TRANSA and its frequencies.

The album is about psychic reunions for trans and nonbinary people restored to their pasts and futures — these overheard conversations resonate, we have found.

This album exists for you to listen start to finish. Let us know if you have, and what it’s like.

The LA concert ended a daylong festival of trans artistry and gave new life to the even the record’s oldest songs; here we revisit Prince’s “I Would Die 4 U” as lensed by Lauren Auder and Wendy & Lisa for TRANSA and then interpreted live in LA by with a house band assembled for the night. “Ever New” from Beverly Glenn-Copeland’s essential ‘Keyboard Fantasies’ saw the composer duet with Sam Smith for TRANSA — at the Getty show, Jodie Landau gave the song a rhapsodic treatment with a full ensemble. Bells swung the way Glenn said Sam’s voice did

TODAY. ONE OF ONE - RSVP tickets.getty.edu

We’ve been all hands on deck for a journey of rehearsals. Join us to watch this bloom! The Getty’s Ever Present series hosts “TRANSA—A Celebration,” a sitewide music event celebrating transgender artistry in collaboration with Red Hot Organization, the storied activist art collective using music as a force for social impact and cultural dialogue.

Channeling TRANSA the album, a spiritual journey in 8 chapters released in 2024 by Red Hot, this event features a bold lineup of musicians across the gender spectrum. The experience begins at 3 p.m. with sound installations in Getty’s Central Garden, pop-up reading and screening rooms, and continues into the evening for a featured concert with musicians in the museum’s outdoor courtyard stage at 6 p.m. Featured artists include Allison Russell, Ahya Simone, Green-House, Nina Keith, Devendra Banhart, CLARITY, Noah Klein, Cole Pulice, Jodie Landau, AV María, Teddy Geiger, Fashion Club, Portraits of Tracy, Kei Austin, plus special guests, all under the artistic direction of David Longstreth (Dirty Projectors).

Ever Present: TRANSA — A Celebration at the Getty Center

Featuring an all-star cast of artists from the project and beyond, who’ll perform music from TRAИƧA the album and more:

Ahya Simone, Cole Pulice, Allison Russell, Teddy Geiger, Nina Keith, CLARITY, Green-House, Fashion Club, Julianna Barwick, AV María, Heart Shaped, Portraits of Tracy, Noah Klein, Jodie Landau, Devendra Banhart + additional special guests. David Longstreth of Dirty Projectors will serve as the evening’s music director. For the first time anywhere, limited edition TRAИƧA 6LP box sets will be available onsite for purchase.

“It’s a privilege to feature this extraordinary project and celebrate the trans community alongside the Red Hot Organization’s inspiring legacy at the Getty, especially as our exhibitions right now are centered on expansive expressions of q***r love,” said Sarah Cooper, Getty performance programs specialist. “Ever Present is a place to honor the voices and histories that are always with us in this diverse world, even if they are not always visible in the dominant narratives of our institutions.”

Guests will make their way through the museum, enjoying the sounds of Nina Keith’s water avatar through an installation titled “Periphone.” On the garden terrace, André 3000’s TRAИƧA contribution will play against a backdrop of original visuals as audience members make their way past historic Red Hot materials including artwork and videos, before the evening concludes with a two-hour musical performance. ONE Archives—home to the world’s largest collection of LGBTQ+ materials—will also create a pop-up reading room celebrating trans and non-binary histories.

TRANSA live in LA 9.6 | free tickets in bio

Ahya Simone’s harp stitches generations of majesty together on TRANSA the album. She twists an impassioned version of Jackie Shane’s 1960s knockout “Any Other Way” with Allison Russell, breathes new lightness into Beverly Glenn Copeland’s “Ever New” (first released in 1986) with the revered composer and Sam Smith, and drives the original “My Name” with Kara Jackson and Dave Longstreth of Dirty Projectors. As a singer on this track, Ahya is resplendent.

The chance 9.6 to see Ahya and Dave collaborate live - and with special guests + the announced roster of artists from Transa and beyond - is unmissable! Link in bio! Get a ticket while you can!
