Comedians in Parliament? Ding-Dong! And just like that it happened. On a beautiful 13th March an historic day was all designed by the powerhouse that is Lu Jackson CEO of Craic.Health and Dr Simon Opher MP and his team. I was honoured to be a part of the roundtable event and a supporter of Craic.health. Lu Jackson coined the phrase ‘Comedy-on-Prescription’ with her recent online platform launch that went viral to address the current NHS health crisis.

I listened carefully as the keynote speakers took the stand led by the brilliant Dr Simon Opher MP. What’s the problem?Currently there are 8.7 million people on antidepressant drugs in the UK at a cost of around 150 billion, clearly drugs are not the answer and isn’t a sustainable answer to many people’s struggles. The concept of social prescribing of humour is something brand new and Dr Simon already an advocate for slowing down the pill popping quick fix medical approach is leading the way vocally, as their own research and studies show the undeniable power of humour to overcome stress, anxiety and more.

Is comedy an art form like dance or art? NO. Comedy isn’t classified as an art from therefore looses out in literally millions of pounds, research and development in the industry. This was also discussed as Craic.health shared astonishing facts, data and a comedy industry survey.

JOYtalk. It was back in 2015 when I started my own journey learning about the power of joy, laughter and glee! I was shocked to read about the then known 50 benefits of laughter and the science from 10 years ago is still much unknown today. Society is literally dying to learn about humour but we need more conversations, investment and infrastructure to get this learning into the lives of not just the most vulnerable but into everyone’s conversation today.

Thank you to everyone who has completed the State of the UK Comedy Industry 2025 Survey. This is a final reminder - for you or industry friends - to please complete the survey which we've extended to tomorrow 6pm https://craic.health/survey.

Who can partake?

The survey is designed for everyone in the comedy industry ecosystem, not just live comedy. Whether you're a performer, writer, agent, producer, venue operator, PA, PR, crew member, street worker, technologist, or work in any other capacity in comedy, your individual voice matters. The survey takes around 10 - 30 minutes to complete: we're finding it is taking longer for those who wish to leave detailed feedback.

When will we know the survey results?
We are presenting the initial findings to the government next week, including at a roundtable at Parliament on Thursday 13 March. To push for meaningful change—especially as emerging tech reshapes the industry—we need as many industry professionals as possible to take part.
