If you are walking in Foggy Bottom/GWU area take a moment to look down at the sidewalk near WholeFoods. These posters have been strategically placed to get your attention.

Homeland Security has joined the National Guard in patrolling the area near Foggy Bottom metro and GWU Hospital. The homeless gentleman in the wheelchair with his dog and would always say “don’t let no one steal your joy” was noticeably absent this morning.

🎭 Honoring a Legend 🎶

Mr. Donal Leace was more than a teacher—he was a mentor, musician, and master of the stage who shaped generations at Duke Ellington School of the Arts.

In his memory, is building the Donal Leace Endowment Fund for Theater—a powerful tribute to a man who believed in the power of truth, talent, and storytelling.

Make a donation – funds will help establish the Donal Leace Theatre Endowment and support the purchase of cinema equipment for the school’s Cinematic Arts & Media Production (CAMP) Department.

This fund will uplift future Ellington artists, ensuring Mr. Leace’s legacy lives on through every spotlight, script, and standing ovation. 💫

We’re heartbroken to report the passing of Malcolm-Jamal Warner at the age of 54 from an apparent drowning.

A generation grew up with Warner as Theodore “Theo” Huxtable—the beloved only son of the Huxtable clan on The Cosby Show, which first aired in 1984 when he was just 14 years old. His portrayal helped redefine Black boyhood on screen, offering humor, vulnerability, and depth across eight seasons.

But Warner’s talents extended far beyond the sitcom world. In 2015, he became a Grammy Award winner for Best Traditional R&B Performance, sharing the honor with Robert Glasper Experiment and Lalah Hathaway for the powerful track, Jesus Children.

He was an actor, poet, musician, and storyteller—but above all, a father, partner, and friend. We extend our deepest prayers and love to his family, loved ones, and all those touched by his presence. May he rest in peace.

✨ Celebrating Black History Month at Duke Ellington School of the Arts 🎭🎶

“The House that Peggy and Mike Built”

In 1968, two visionaries, Peggy Cooper Cafritz and Mike Malone, co-founded Workshops for Careers in the Arts (WCA), planting the seeds for what would later grow into the Duke Ellington School of the Arts. 🌟

By the early 1970s, the Summer Workshop for Careers in the Arts had become so popular that it expanded into a released-time program, allowing students from across the District to take accredited arts courses.

But they needed more space.

In 1974, after years of determination and advocacy, Peggy Cooper Cafritz transformed the program into a full-fledged arts school, finding a permanent home on R Street in Georgetown—the former Western High School.

That same year, following the passing of the legendary Duke Ellington, the school was named in his honor. 🎷❤️

The founders envisioned more than just a school.

They dreamed of a community where youth from all races, religions, and socioeconomic backgrounds could access world-class arts training alongside rigorous academics.

Today, we honor their legacy as we continue to inspire and uplift the next generation of artists.
