Have you visited Made in The Gorge?

It's Tuesday, so Kyla Rae is managing our gallery. Come in and talk with her about these gorgeous sparkly Green Tourmaline earrings. Green Tourmaline encourages self-love and forgiveness, something we can all strive for.

Made in the Gorge is the longest-running artist-owned cooperative gallery in the Columbia River Gorge, celebrating our 24th year!

Open seven days a week from 10am until 6pm through Labor Day at 108 Oak in Hood River. Free parking downtown Hood River every Sunday and holidays.

Visit our gallery for artful gifts, home & office decor, personal adornment & more.
Everything in our gallery is made by seven artists who live & produce their work right here in the Gorge: Linda Steider, Photography; Ashley Nelson, Watercolor; Kyla Rae, Jewelry; Nick Miles, Metal; Nancy Skakel, Fiber; Wayne Cordrey, Artisan Woodworking; and Courtney Hart, Pottery.

The first steam-powered operation was the Oregon Portage Railway, which began construction of a 4.5 mile line (including 7 miles of telegraph, as noted in the book, "The Old Oregon Country: A History of Frontier Trade, Transportation and Travel," by Oscar Osburn Winther) along the river's south bank between Tanner Creek and the Cascade Locks in 1858..

If you are hoping to see the state by rail but not via Amtrak, Oregon train rides have plenty to offer with incredible scenic views.

Steeped in stories about warring mountains, an inland sea that stretched to Idaho, earthquakes, and white hot rocks hurtling through the air, the Bridge of the Gods has moved straight out legend and into the modern world.

Interesting statistic of the day: So far this year, 7,397 people have crossed the Bridge of the Gods on foot!

The Bridge of the Gods is the only pedestrian crossing of the Columbia River between the I-205 Glen Jackson Bridge in Portland and The Dalles Bridge. But there is no sidewalk or pedestrian lane on the Bridge of the Gods, so it's very important that motorists share the road and stay under the 15MPH speed limit. Pedestrians should always walk against the flow of traffic and stay as close as possible to the side rails.

The Port will be looking at ways to improve pedestrian safety on the bridge as part of a series of studies funded by the Oregon state legislature in the coming months, along with seismic resiliency and other preservation and safety improvements.
