Happy New Year! Thank you so much for following along on our journey hiking the Appalachian Trail and being a part of our adventure! The channel has reached nearly 4000 subscribers this year and we’ve met so many amazing people! Thank you for making 2024 special! 💕 I hope everyone has an amazing 2025!

This year I entered retirement and started my Appalachian Trail through hike attempt. It’s a little nonconventional and started immediately when I retired in November. I started SoBo and, completed the 100 Mile Wilderness in Maine and got down to Route 4 before the weather had me flop South.

Prior to that, I completed winter miles in NH along the AT and also had my 1st experience with snow shoes.

I had the extraordinary opportunity to serve as part of the “Chump Change” crew supporting Tara Dower (Candy Mama) and team on her AT FKT. To say this was intense is an understatement. Witnessing this achievement was extraordinarily moving and something I’ll never forget. I’m grateful for the opportunity to participate.

2025 is going to be a big year. I start the NoBo leg on my thru hike attempt in February and plan to go all the way to Katahdin, even though I’ve already done the Maine miles. This serves the purpose of hopefully letting me get enough miles to both complete a thru hike AND my independent section hike of the AT.

I can’t believe the year is over already. Happy New Year to everyone! Hikers Hike!

Well, I did it - I retired on the last day of October and traveled back North to Maine to hike SoBo. I chose Maine in November for my start because I wanted the isolation and solitude. I wanted a strong demarcation from a lifetime of schedule to an existence where there is none.

Views of the comet from the golf course (the 1st few are from a few days ago in VA) - it’s pretty dim now, only visible with binoculars or camera. Got a few shots with my old Pentax zoom ~4s ISO 1200ish f4.5

— The Appalachian National Scenic Trail was born on October 2, 1968, not with the nailing of a sign or the painting of a blaze, but with the stroke of a pen. Today marks the 56th anniversary of the National Trails System Act! This landmark legislation forever changed our ability to care for the , providing federal protection of the Trail and establishing the cooperative management system.

April and I went down to GA to help the Tara Dower crew again for her FKT (successful) attempt of the AT and for April Reed Kriz to see the Springer Mountain AT terminus and some iconic waterfalls. Here are a few photos from the trip:
