Had to replace a segment of cast iron pipe.

Oh the joys of owning a hundred and five year old house.
I was walking from the kitchen into the living room and noticed a discolored spot in the plaster. I then proceeded to probe at it with my Swiss Army knife and discovered that the cast iron drain pipe for the upstairs bathroom was leaking.
Once I uncovered the pipe I discovered a crack that ran the entire segment of the pipe. This is my temporary repair until I get off work on Monday.

1848 Old Growth Floor lottery

After the crust was sanded away, the 1848 floors came up amazing. One coat sealer, 2nd coat oil poly gloss, final coat was an oil poly satin. Very stoked with how they turned out.

Stair Carpet recommendations?

We have this ugly 1980s brown carpet on our stairs. The cats have peed on it a few times and have started tearing it up so I need to replace it.

The treads and risers underneath are painted gray (likely lead) and I don't really want to strip and refinish the stairs - especially since they would mostly covered up by a runner. The landing has the old Armstrong Brick pattern vinyl floor under the carpet - debating on going over it with the same vinyl we put down on our first floor or sticking with carpet.

Does anyone have a carpet they would recommend to replace? Something that looks kinda like a stair runner but would go the entire width of the stairs.

I added a picture of the culprit. She gets a pass for being cute I guess.

1920 craftsman. Chunk of plaster fell off the ceiling after a crack formed. Should I replace with plaster again?

My contractor can do either plaster or drywall but says there's no guarantee the plaster won't fall again if the house is still shifting or settling. I've been sticking with plaster on the walls because it's more solid and it's historical. Is there any advantage of one material over the other for the ceiling?

He's going to remove the trim around the boxbeam ceiling in that section and completely replace everything in that square of ceiling. My gut is to stick with plaster since it's the original construction material for our home.

Is it worth the effort to replace new interior doors with solid salvaged ones?

I live in a condo built in the early 1920s and during a renovation in the early 2000s all the original doors minus the front and back exterior doors (which need restoration too) have been replaced with hollow core ones. I would love to install salvaged wood doors to bring back some more original character but I’m unsure if it’s worth the effort.

I have 6 doors that would need replacing in varying sizes.

My dad is a very strong carpenter and would help me execute but the space we’d need to work is in the suburbs.

Obviously I want to bring back the original character but I’m just wondering if the juice is worth the squeeze since it would likely be logistically challenging.

Finally got this old gal restored after living in the attic for three years.

Previous owners had a mundane fixture, but I knew she needed to come back!
