I thought I'd failed as a mother when my 28-year-old son came home last Christmas and announced he was "taking up quilting to deal with stress."
His father immediately started making jokes about him turning into his grandmother, asking if he needed help picking out lipstick next. I watched my son's face shut down the way it used to when kids teased him in middle school for being too quiet, too gentle, too different from what everyone expected.
He'd been struggling since his divorce, sleeping on our couch, barely eating, scrolling through his phone for hours without really seeing anything. The quilting started as therapy his counselor suggested, something to keep his hands busy while his heart healed. He ordered fabric bundles from a therapeutic crafting group on the Tedooo app where other people shared stories about sewing through depression.
Three months later, he finished this. Blues and browns that somehow capture everything he couldn't say out loud about losing his marriage, his house, his vision of the future. Every stitch precise, every pattern deliberate. When he held it up, I saw my little boy who used to bandage injured birds and cry during Disney movies.
"Don't post it anywhere," he said. "People will think it's weird."
But this isn't weird. This is my son rebuilding himself one square at a time, refusing to let anyone else define what strength looks like. If more men had the courage to create something beautiful with their hands instead of tearing things apart, maybe the world would be softer

My dog chewed a hole in my living room wall last night, and I'm sitting here crying because I know it's my fault, not hers.
I adopted her from the shelter six months ago after she was found abandoned on the side of a highway. The volunteers warned me she had severe separation anxiety, but she'd been making such incredible progress. We'd worked up to me being gone for a few hours without any incidents, and I thought we were finally turning a corner.
But yesterday I had to pull a double shift at work because we were short-staffed, and I was gone for almost 12 hours. I left her with all her favorite toys and even played calming music, but I can only imagine the terror she must have felt thinking I wasn't coming back. Just like whoever abandoned her before.
When I walked in and saw this destruction, my first reaction was anger. But then I looked at her cowering in the corner, and I realized she wasn't being naughty. She was having a full panic attack, thinking she'd been left alone forever again. The hole she chewed is right where she could hear my neighbors talking through the wall - she was probably trying to get to other people because she thought I'd disappeared.
I make calming anxiety toys for dogs and sell them on the Tedooo app because I understand how much rescue animals struggle with trust. I've helped so many other pet parents, but last night I failed the one dog who needed me most.
She's lost her nighttime roaming privileges, but honestly, I think I've lost something too. I've lost the confidence that I can be the stable, reliable person she deserves. I just ordered some natural calming supplements from a pet wellness crafter on Tedooo, hoping we can rebuild the trust I broke by leaving her alone too long.
She's sleeping next to me right now, and I keep whispering "I'm sorry" because she deserved better.

Need help! My husband, who insists on doing his own laundry, left a pen that then exploded and I've got 6 more loads to do today.
As I said, my husband insists on doing his own laundry even though laundry day is Friday, he wants it done Thursday and I work Thursday, so I start my normal Friday 7 loads and open the dryer to this. I've used rubbing alcohol which is turning the paper towel blue at least but the stains remain on the dryer plus I have doubts of running this thing with all that alcohol on there it'll explode. I need help! I attempted a small bit of oven cleaner that did nothing, also goo gone did nothing. I guess I'll be going to a laundromat until then.

Any ideas on how to use this space? It's in the kitchen and is called a nook. It is really tiny! We want to keep the wood as is. Measurements is 6 x 8.5! Thank you!!
Side Edit: I know the woodwork is not everyone's cup of tea and that is ok! 😊 The kitchen cabinets, the woodwork, and corner cabinet was all custom made by a woodworker who had his wokshop and home right behind the house. Sadly he passed many years ago. We have articles about him in our local paper, he custom designed and installed his kitchens in numerous homes in our area. It is an honor to have them and I love the history and love that was put in them. He has a metal name plate attached to the corner cabinet, and another corner cabinet in the kitchen, it is just the coolest thing! We do plan on changing the flooring eventually. 😊

Neighbor drills through our shared wall to secure a fence without asking. Then wants us to bolt the bottom because he couldn't reach it.
I'm honestly at a loss for words right now. We've been dealing with neighbor issues for months, but this takes the cake.
Last week, our neighbor decided he needed to secure his new fence panel to our shared block wall. Did he knock on our door to ask permission? Did he mention this plan when we saw him at the mailbox? Nope. We came home from work to find he'd drilled multiple holes through OUR side of the wall and bolted his fence to it.
When my husband went over to ask what was going on, the neighbor acted like we were being unreasonable for questioning it. "It's just a few holes," he said. "The fence needed to be secured."
But here's the best part. This morning he knocks on our door and asks if we can bolt the bottom section for him because he "couldn't reach it properly." So not only did he damage our wall without permission, now he wants us to finish his project for him.
I've been venting about this in a neighborhood dispute group on the Tedooo app, and apparently this kind of thing happens more than you'd think. Some people suggested we could order custom privacy screens from crafters there to block the view of his fence altogether.
I'm torn between being petty and taking the high road. Part of me wants to remove every single bolt he put in. The other part just wants to build something beautiful on our side that makes his ugly fence disappear.
Has anyone else dealt with neighbors who think property lines are just suggestions? I'm running out of patience here.

Just painted the fireplace dark blue. I like artsy, eclectic, but this feels like a mess. What can I keep, remove, reposition for harmony? This is what you see when you come in the front door, there’s no entryway. Be blunt
