A monumental figure in horse racing for the last 50 years and all of my life, D Wayne Lukas passed away at the age of 89.
When I first heard that Wayne was not doing well, I thought I swear I just saw him in the paddock. Sure enough he saddled Lady Alyiah on June 14th. After looking back from photos earlier in the week I came across this one and it made me laugh a little. Just the most Lukas photo there could be, only fitting Wayne and his pony surveying the track. Spending in what were his last days doing what he did for a lifetime.
