When I mailed QBS with the result of my investigation, I got this reply:
'Amazing work. Unfortunately, I am still several steps ahead of you my friend... I planned everything very carefully, including this email.
My name is not **********.
Whilst I admire your detective skills, unfortunately you only followed the clues I intended for you to follow. The devil is in the details Daniel...
Good work on identifying the Facebook account! You were very polite to good old Selby, nice to know that you're a good person. Sadly, the Facebook facial recognition test on new accounts is not something I want to risk, I don't like to fly too close to the sun, hence the account being deleted.
I had to make another account to post the Paul Johnson and Squash TV videos for the simple reason of Copyright; as the footage is unedited, I risk copyright strikes, and obviously I don't want copyright strikes on my QBS channel after all the hard work I did.
Now, allow me to expand on the whole South African thing...
You spotted the South African theme regarding the playlists on QBS account. I must say, it was a pretty genius clue to leave behind. I was absolutely certain that people would investigate the account, I felt that leaving clues regarding a nationality as well as the trademark "Working from the inside to clean squash for the outside" would start a rumour mill, which of course would only drive more conversation about my videos :)
The mistake you made was not investigating the metadata of the playlists. Had you used a website such as MW Metadata, you would have noticed something curious about the playlists' creation times.
The playlists are currently unlisted, here are the URLs:
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLso0vD9WrYV66E5AmDpJG0ptU8MTY1MR1
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLso0vD9WrYV6859lRpBLl9_23NDNmpe2N
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLso0vD9WrYV5y-kttmhll5ls_fp2YhxMp
If you plug these into MW Metadata you will find the following:
As you can see, the playlists were all made back-to-back and it took less than 12 minutes to make them all. They were also made after the first video.
My initial plan was that people would accuse Jesse Engelbrecht of making the videos - he is South African, he can edit YouTube videos, is a high level coach, and he coaches elite players (potential motive). Of course, I would never actually let him take the blame, but I was absolutely sure that people would start to make rumours which would "keep the fire burning" as you say. I also really like Jesse so I thought maybe the publicity could even help him once the blame was lifted, he deserves more viewership.
Anyway, no-one really went for it so I had to improvise. Paul Johnson agreeing with most of my video was a pivotal moment, I knew that the delusional conspiracy theorists over on Squash Stories would be absolutely furious with him. I also knew that Squash Radio not being on YouTube was a massive blunder when it comes to exposure. Finally, most people don't watch full podcasts, but what if I could post it on YouTube and effectively summarise it in a way that would enrage Squash Stories with just a single glance... It's Selby time! By using timestamps in the thumbnail, people didn't even need to click on the video to learn of PJ's opinion. By posting under another ID, it also made sure that Squash Stories would share it, I figured that they wouldn't share anything made by QBS anymore.
Just as I hoped, Squash Stories became enraged, people like Hosam Sayed and Johnny Gray were threatening legal action and all I could do was smile. My plan was to create more chaos, but I never expected it to be so easy! Threatening legal action like that drove thousands of more viewers to my channel. I don't have any Facebook accounts now, but I did see that Johnny Gray has effectively been doing my job for me, his continued failed attempts at arguing against my videos has just made them even more popular. I almost wish I could claim that Johnny Gray was my account! If I had to guess, I think that he has driven about 15,000 people to my channel, all by himself.
Anyways, after sharing that PJ video to Reddit, I was given a blessing. 'That account'. I checked out a commenter on that post and reviewed the history, I could not believe my luck. I never intended to actually give you someone's name, and I was sure it was anonymous, so the fact you found one was impressive. I thought that you would find something else to keep the rumours moving forwards, finding his real name is good detective work. But unfortunately for you, that's not me and it's not my name. I'm not even South African, never even been there.
Now, the discussion has finally made its way over to SquashTV, my videos have over 225,000 views, everyone is talking about them and I have private messages from professional players approving of my videos. My goal is complete, I won. The plan was never to reveal myself, my goal is benevolent - I really really really don't like cheating. That's it. I never wanted fame or attention, I just wanted an issue to be highlighted as much as possible, planned how to do that and executed it perfectly.
I hope you stop pandering to the morons on Squash Stories, even after Jamie Maddox insults you by comment, and then spoke s**t about you behind your back, you continue to try to appease him. My advice is to leave the clown and all of his delusional friends alone, and switch focus to Reddit and YouTube. You have no idea what people like Maddox, Gray, Tupper, Baldwin, Weithers and Lambert have been saying behind your back. You will find one day that actually Reddit is the real platform that represents the fans... Reddit won't ban you for disagreeing with them, Squash Stories does. Move on.
I don't know what my future is, but what's for certain, is that everything that you think you find out about me is deliberate. Every clue is a red herring. Even my channel logo and channel banner giveaway a clue that no-one found. After all, I had no idea what clues people would find so I had to leave several. My channel is unrelated to this email, I used VPNs and traffic redirections to change my location, I even use a random name associated with the QBS account in case I ever did get hacked just to provide even more protection. Whether or not you wish to pursue that further is up to you, but I would suggest using that time on more enjoyable things. It's been fun, and thank you for playing
