Sushiramis – where you’ll get the best sushi in town
Sushi may not be my first choice in a menu but a friend of mine who lived in Japan several years was yearning for a place to have a real good Sushi meal, so she dragged me to the Intercontinental Semiramis to try some there.
Okay, I said, why not, every day is an adventure anyway. On the ground floor of the hotel, and around the corner where most of the shops are situated, I was confronted with a bar with stools and a few tables strewn around. I was skeptical at first, as I did not expect this place would satisfy my friend’s taste for a real good Sushi.
We were greeted by Chef Raoul and his assistants behind the counter and that is when I understood this is where the Chef prepares your food fresh and en-suite right in front of you.
Chef Raoul decided to choose for us, which was fine by me, since I am not an expert in Sushi. We started with misoshiro soup which had tofu, soy bean, spring onion and wakame. We opted for the mild version, but if you like it spicy, then you’ll get it adding crab to it.
We were then offered the Yasai salad with wafu dressing and sesame seeds. Though it has soya sauce and should be strong, I thought it was delicious and understood that the soya sauce the Japanese use is a different version of the Chinese sauce.
Then the masterpiece was offered, a platter of sushi and sashimi mix - fresh salmon sashimi, smoked salmon tempura and spicy tuna roll. Yes, I ate it all and loved every bit of it.
The menu is extensive from appetisers such as marinated seasbass in vinegared ginger with spicy sesame oil and marinated tuna in sweet glazed miso for appetizers to hand formed sushi to California, Philadelphia and spicy tuna rolls, and combinations for salmon lovers, maki platter and sashimi moriawase which is five kinds of assorted sashimi.
Chef Raoul you have gained a sushi lover today.
