Rusa stag in full rut.

As we entered under the fence and looked ahead we notice a group of 10-15 Rusa stags. There didn’t look to be any giants...

As we entered under the fence and looked ahead we notice a group of 10-15 Rusa stags. There didn’t look to be any giants in the mix but we needed to have a closer look. 100m to 50m took about an hour as there was so many eyes. Once we made it to fifty a set of antlers caught my eye out towards the back of the group. Big bladed tops presented themselves through the glass and I knew now he had a target on his vitals. At this point we decided to back out and try a different approach but that wasn’t a goer either. A third approach now had us squeeze into 30m and wait for a shot. 20 minutes or so went by and a younger stag got up to feed off. Moments later the bigger stag now wanted to follow, I drew the bow back from behind the tree as the stag got up from his bedded position. He started walking the opposite direction so I had to let out a mild roar. He spun back around to see what all the commotion was about and a eager arrow was ready to let loose. The stag was heavily quartering away as the arrow made its mark. A Father’s Day I’ll never forget.
