We are tired. We are seeing tired everywhere. We have collectively hit weary. We see things beginning to open up, but what will this new normal be? Additionally, we are still struggling with the pain and unrest caused by racial tensions and prejudice, as evidenced by the ongoing protests.
This Coronavirus pandemic has been like nothing any of us have ever lived through. This is something that will change our generation forever. How are you coping with what has happened? How are you coping with getting back to the real world?
The protests over the death of George Floyd may remind parents and grandparents of events in the past, but for our youth, this may be the first time they’ve been aware of the anguish and tension that still simmers beneath the surface for so many of our citizens.
We’re all emotional. We’re all experiencing this differently. And that’s okay. Some of us are scared. Some of us are nervous. Others are confused. But there is some good news…we’re going through this together.
We want to do something to help our young writers and readers process this pandemic and these protests. We want people, young and old alike, to continue to read and write through this difficult and strange time. . And frankly, we want to put some positivity back into the world.
So… we’re going to publish a collection of poetry and stories written by children and young adults.
Why? Because in our own lives, writing has been a way for us to process life. And as you know, throughout history, writing has helped people handle life’s stresses, and it helps us to begin to understand the unknowns of a crisis like this one.
We want young people to use writing to share their stories of this Coronavirus pandemic and quarantine with the world. How do they feel about this time of social unrest? How are they preparing for the future? Young people, please use beautiful imagery to let the world know how your family is passing the time. Use creative writing to show us the struggles you and your family are going through. Let the pen help to cope with this turmoil. Because, we’re all going through this. No one is alone.
So young people ages 18 and below…we need you. And the help of your parents.
There is no cost to you. Each author that is selected will receive $20 and a free copy of the magazine. Check out all the details below.
Now get to writing! We can’t wait to read your work. Thank you!
