A new Thoughts and Musings is up!
“My Voice Without the Lies.”
This week Andrew reflects on K-Pop Demon Hunters and how one scene of brokenness and honesty points us toward the power of confession. The devil tells us to hide, to cover our scars in shame. But Christ invites us to speak the truth, to bring our wounds into His light, and to discover freedom in His mercy.

This week on Into the Deep, Josh and Andrew talk about why being a boring leader might actually make you a better one. Real leadership is not about charisma or flash, it is about consistency, discipline, and doing the unglamorous work that keeps things running.
We dig into why good leaders are often overlooked, how faith calls us to serve rather than impress, and why quiet, steady leadership builds stronger teams, families, and parishes. The best leaders may not make headlines, but they make a difference where it matters most.

End of work day mediation and scrolling break. What does it mean to be a child? A child completely trusts that their father will give them food, provide for them and will never abandon them. We never have to worry with God. If we trust in Him, seek to follow Him and live out His commandments He will never leave us wanting. The world says that religion and following God makes us less free. However none of us are more free than a child who is loved and cared for by their Father in who them have placed their trust

The disciples approached Jesus and said,
“Who is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven?”
He called a child over, placed it in their midst, and said,
“Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children,
you will not enter the Kingdom of heaven.
Whoever humbles himself like this child
is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven.”
Matthew 18:1-4

Today's Gospel reading is a challenge and sobering reminder. Throughout the thirteenth chapter of Matthew's Gospel, Jesus is sharing with us the truth of the eternal and final judgment where God will reward us for our desire to be united with Him or cast us aside as if we never knew Him. Our desire for union with God is not merely a feeling but is shown by how we live our lives. I must actively will to do the good and then pursue it. If I only talk about doing loving God and neighbor, but do not perform actions in accordance with the Scriptures than I will be separated from God in the next life just as I was separate from Him in this life. The truths of how we are to live and act are found both in the Old and New Covenants expressing our need to live out prayer, justice, mercy, and sacrifice so that we may be made righteous through God's commands.

Jesus said to the disciples:
“The Kingdom of heaven is like a net thrown into the sea,
which collects fish of every kind.
When it is full they haul it ashore
and sit down to put what is good into buckets.
What is bad they throw away.
Thus it will be at the end of the age.
The angels will go out and separate the wicked from the righteous
and throw them into the fiery furnace,
where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.”
Jesus asked them:
“Do you understand all these things?”
They answered, “Yes.”
And he replied,
“Then every scribe who has been instructed in the Kingdom of heaven
is like the head of a household who brings from his storeroom
both the new and the old.”

A little break from your midday scroll. One of the things that can be learned from our Protestant brothers and sisters is to have a deeper devotion to reading Sacred Scripture. Today's first reading from St. Paul's letter second letter to Timothy reminds us that Scripture trains us for the task of doing good works. If we want to be equipped, if we want to know what God is asking us to do and how to do it, then we must be spending time each day in the text for Sacred Scripture. It is God's word handed down to us and preserved by the the Church so that we might be able to respond to God's call in our lives.

Beloved:
Remain faithful to what you have learned and believed,
because you know from whom you learned it,
and that from infancy you have known the sacred Scriptures,
which are capable of giving you wisdom for salvation
through faith in Christ Jesus.
All Scripture is inspired by God
and is useful for teaching, for refutation, for correction,
and for training in righteousness,
so that one who belongs to God may be competent,
equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:14-17

Today's reading from the Gospel of John seems to be quite puzzling. How does Nathanael come to recognize Jesus as the Son of God simply by knowing that Jesus saw Him under a fig tree? Is it not possible that Jesus had good eye sight? It would seem that Jesus is doing something miraculous which makes Nathanael and us fill in the gaps. Nathanael was perhaps alone under the fig tree. No one would have or could have seen him. For Jesus to claim that He saw Nathanael would be to claim some level of omniscience. Nathanael is rightly in awe at this proclamation, but Jesus declares that greater things will happen through Him. Trusting in Jesus that He is who He says He is requires that we pay attention to what He is doing and has already done. If we do not stop and enter into silence to actually discern what He is saying we will never really know the plans He has in store for us.

Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him,
“Here is a true child of Israel.
There is no duplicity in him.”
Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?”
Jesus answered and said to him,
“Before Philip called you, I saw you under the fig tree.”
Nathanael answered him,
“Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel.”
Jesus answered and said to him,
“Do you believe
because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree?
You will see greater things than this.”
And he said to him, “Amen, amen, I say to you,
you will see heaven opened
and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”
John 1:47-51

Today is the Feast day of the Archangels where we celebrate the seven archangels. Of these seven angels, we know 3 of their names. Of those angels 1 is given the title Prince of the Heavenly Host, St Michael the Archangel. In years prior today was a celebration of St. Michael referred to as Michaelmas (St Michael's Mass) and those who would participate in the liturgy would hear about Michael's triumph over Satan in Revelation. Michael is one given the authority by God to defeat Satan. His name translates to Who Is Like God and it is his name which rebukes Satan in his pride reminding him that no one but God is like God. If you are struggling against sin and temptation turn to God and ask if He would send St Michael to be your help and your protection.

War broke out in heaven;
Michael and his angels battled against the dragon.
The dragon and its angels fought back,
but they did not prevail
and there was no longer any place for them in heaven.
The huge dragon, the ancient serpent,
who is called the Devil and Satan,
who deceived the whole world,
was thrown down to earth,
and its angels were thrown down with it.

Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say:
“Now have salvation and power come,
and the Kingdom of our God
and the authority of his Anointed.
For the accuser of our brothers is cast out,
who accuses them before our God day and night.
They conquered him by the Blood of the Lamb
and by the word of their testimony;
love for life did not deter them from death.
Therefore, rejoice, you heavens,
and you who dwell in them.”
Revelation 12:7-12ab

Today's first reading reminds us that Jesus' kingdom is an everlasting kingdom which He has received through the hands of His Father, the Ancient One. Jesus has been with Him since the beginning as the Word of God and by His Incarnation God became Man. This Man was raised up from the dead, ascended into heaven and now sits on the throne as ruler and king of all. Those who come to Him can have access to the Father through Him and become members of His eternal kingdom.

"As I watched:
Thrones were set up
and the Ancient One took his throne.
His clothing was bright as snow,
and the hair on his head as white as wool;
His throne was flames of fire,
with wheels of burning fire.
A surging stream of fire
flowed out from where he sat;
Thousands upon thousands were ministering to him,
and myriads upon myriads attended him.

The court was convened, and the books were opened.
As the visions during the night continued, I saw

One like a son of man coming,
on the clouds of heaven;
When he reached the Ancient One
and was presented before him,
He received dominion, glory, and kingship;
nations and peoples of every language serve him.
His dominion is an everlasting dominion
that shall not be taken away,
his kingship shall not be destroyed."
Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14

Happy Saturday! A new Thoughts and Musings post is up!
“Iron sharpens iron.” This week’s reflection is brought to you by Andrew! In it he looks at the friendship of Harry Dresden and Michael Carpenter in The Dresden Files, and how their bond of grit and faith shows us the power of true friendship to refine us and call us higher.

This week on Into the Deep, we look at why prayer still matters in our modern world. Too often we hear the phrase “thoughts and prayers” thrown around without much meaning, but real prayer goes beyond thoughts. It changes us, it moves us to action, and it connects us with God’s power. We’ll share how prayer shapes our lives, why it’s essential in times of crisis, and how prayer isn’t just words but a force that leads to good works.
