One of my favorite stories to tell is when I was interviewing Cedric Battle early in the season and asked him to compare himself to Isaiah Love after he had just put up the big rushing numbers on Burk that landed Love on this list.

I never used the quotes in the paper as a favor to Coach Youngs who didn't want this kind of bulletin board material posted, but here we are 11 years later and Ced telling me "It's Burk" over and over again still rings in my brain....

"It's Burk. C'mon, it's Burk. I mean, it's Burk. I'm out here doing it against real teams. He's doing it against Burk. Really? It's Burk." (No disrespect intended to Burk on my part, but this happened. It's just fact.)

Two months later, Ced backed up those comments with 531 yards and 7 TDs. That's still the most rushing TDs in a single game in WFISD history.

Here it is: The official ranking of the Top 25 large-school football players of the past 25 years as chosen by local sports media!

This was a challenging vote and some great players were left off. In all, we had 57 players on the ballot --- 41 received at least one vote.

One thing we know when we put together these types of lists is we won't make everyone happy with them. The criticism is welcome, but these rankings are not uninformed opinions. This panel has more than 100 seasons total experience covering local high school sports in the Wichita Falls area.

Every single one of us agonized over these rankings and regretted leaving certain players off our lists.

Be sure to check out Zach Duncan's Red River Roundup breakdown of his personal ballot compared to the final list.

A panel of experts ranks the top 25 Wichita Falls-area large-school football players from the past 25 years. See who made the list—and who topped it.

Very unique honor to have my former boss, Andy Newberry, write about one of my lifetime achievements, considering he was a heavy influence on me entering the sports writing profession in the first place. I appreciate the recognition from Midwestern State after I finally completed by 25-year plan to earn a Bachelor's Degree!

After years of telling others’ stories, longtime Times Record News sports writer Jonathan Hull earned his Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences degree from Midwestern State University. He paused college twice to build his career but finished while working full time. At first, he didn’t want to walk the stage, saying he was doing it for his mother and his wife, but graduation meant more than he expected. “I take great pride in finally achieving this,” Hull said.

Let's be clear... It was hard to get on our Top 25 ranking of the best small-school football players in the past 25. There were 50 of the 51 players who were on the ballot who received at least one vote!

I thought it would be fair to list the players who received votes but didn't make the top 25.
