One of the many services we provide is VHS (and other formats) transfer to DVD/digital files.

All these belong to one customer and it’s been a mammoth task, saving wonderful family memories going back to the 80s and digitising them.

Each tape is transferred to a single DVD and all 19 are on a single USB stick, which will play on almost all smart TVs.

The service is £10 per tape.

We were called out to a faulty CCTV system last week, where we traced the fault to the DVR (recorder) itself.

The customer had it installed 3 years ago and was under the impression they had a HikVision system and DVR. But as it was tucked away in the loft, they never actually checked.

Turns out the DVR was a ‘ProLux’ - a brand even we’ve never come across.

If that wasn’t bad enough, the hard drive in it was the cheapest, non surveillance spec version - and was 10 years old!

We supplied and fitted a brand new HikVision DVR with a 1Tb Seagate Skyhawk surveillance spec hard drive - all covered by a 3 year parts and labour guarantee.

Coming to the end of another crazy busy month. But this stopped me in my tracks…

Second call of the day/week this morning in Brontë country and I commented on this beautiful furniture. Little did I know it was genuine Robert ‘Mousey’ Thompson.

The sideboard and dining table/chairs, all complete with the great man’s own, unique carvings of mice on each one.

My customer loved that I knew of his work and was only too happy for me to look a little closer and take some photos.

Always loved Mousey Thompson’s work since I was a kid. Can’t remember where I first saw it but it was on a job with my dad as a nipper - he was a service engineer too, albeit oil fired boilers. His work took him into some beautiful, remote parts of North Yorkshire and I’m sure it’ll have been somewhere in that part of God’s own country.

Many years later, having met my beautiful wife, Catherine, I discovered she knew all about Mousey’s work too. Her mum and dad used to take them to Hubberholme, up in the Dales. The little church there was done by him and they used to love exploring and finding the mice. When our girls were little, we used to take them up there and they loved looking for them too.

We still go up there to this day and always go in the church and admire his work.

Anyway, enough of the warm memories… Currys ‘installed’ the TV, Bose sound bar and Manhattan Freeview recorder. Sadly, they couldn’t get it to work. The customer called another ‘company’ in over the weekend, who also couldn’t get it to work.

I had it all up and running perfectly in around half an hour.

Another tough week under the belt.

Didn’t take too many photos but snapped a few…

An enormous antenna used for a scanner. On 18” galvanised TK brackets, a 10ft 1.5” aluminium mast, then topped with the almost 9ft antenna. The tip of this is around 35 feet from the ground!

A simple looking installation in the heart of Clayton. Due to the property being a single storey, height wasn’t on our side. But we still managed to get a superb signal from the Emley Moor transmitter and cabled it very discreetly into the living room, ready for the new tenant to move and enjoy perfect reception on their TV.

Nipped over to the beautiful village of Haworth on Wednesday for an existing customer. Nice, simple job for a lovely lady.

An emergency Friday afternoon call to an elderly gentleman in BD2, who had no TV whatsoever. We quickly diagnosed the fault in the loft to an overheated amplifier and replaced it from stock with a Blake item. Retuned all three TVs and all was good.

Several five star reviews for our efforts to finish the week off too.

We’ll certainly enjoy the weekend - hope you do too.

A few hours on the rooftops before a few more in the workshop…

A customer in Allerton, Bradford had tried to fit his own TV aerial bought from Screwfix but gave up trying to get a signal and called us in. One of our superb Fracarro Freeview aerials was fitted which gave superb signal levels from the Keighley transmitter. Then into the loft to trace a fault, which we quickly found and rectified. Perfect pictures on all TVs. 😎

From that to a bench repair on one of our own VHS/DVD copying set ups. A simple head clean, using top quality chamois and acetone - the old school way. The way we’ve been doing it for over 40 years. This restored operation of the VHS deck, which is now on with copying a customer’s priceless memories.

Cowboys… my pet hate for over 30 years.

Drove past a house today where we’d been asked by a local roofer to install a new Freeview TV aerial after they’d dropped the chimney.

As always, we were very busy and couldn’t get there the same day, so arranged to do the job 3 days after the call.

On the morning of the appointment, we messaged the homeowner to confirm our arrival time, only to be told it had been done “by one of your colleagues” the day before.

Sadly, said roofer had phoned everyone he could find online asking them to do the job too.

Couldn’t help but call in to see the homeowner today after seeing this abomination of a job done by ‘Ricky’.

Cost? £330.00. Three hundred and thirty pounds.

Almost double what we’d quoted.

Not gunna lie… this week has been *hard*.

Only 4 days graft but after a bout of Covid last weekend (on my birthday!), working at height has been a real challenge. Dizzy spells and light headedness has eased through the week but I’ve done what I can.

Some rest and quality time with family and friends this weekend and the old bu**er will be ready to go again on Monday morning!

Nice to finish the week off with a couple of ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ reviews. They’re always greatly appreciated and make a massive difference to small businesses like ours - thank you.
