Ab Training and Control 💪 🔪

Ab shape, thickness, and lines are almost entirely genetic. No matter how you train them, you won’t get abs if you aren’t born with them. Just ask 😭

That said, there are a few key ways you can improve your ab pop and control on stage 😎

1) train them heavy, 6-12 reps through a full range of motion. 2 hard sets 2-3x/week. 💪

2) exercise selection: there’s no such thing as “upper abs” vs “lower abs”. Your re**us abdominals perform one main function - spinal contraction. For this reason, hanging leg raises are mostly a sh*tty isometric for abs and a dynamic exercise for hip flexors ❌. Planks and ab rollouts are similarly useless 👎 . I recommend:
- decline crunches ✅
- cable crunches with your butt glued to your heels ✅
- ab crunch machines, including on the lat pullover ✅

3) vacuums - you don’t need to practice them all offseason. I recommend adding in 8 sets of 20 sec on, 10 sec off over a sink starting ~10 weeks out ⏰

4) bonus tip from - do a 30 second plank on your elbows where you actively contract your abs like in a vacuum, immediately into 30 sec plank on hands (like top of a push-up) with the same active contraction. This seems to compliment vacuums well for stomach control 🧠

Application: Use D ribose for the first 15g of carbs in your intra, use dextrose for the remaining (or HBCD if you like wasting money 🤑). 💪👍
