“The next time I come here, it should be you telling me about the development you’ve seen — not me explaining what I’ve done. If I explain, then I have failed you.”

Raphael Ngimbu, a native of Zambezi District has officially declared his intention to contest the Zambezi West parliamentary seat in the 2026 elections, promising to advocate for tangible development to the area.

In a statement, the candidate emphasized the urgent need to connect Zambezi West to the national electricity grid and improving road network, noting that the lack of reliable power and roads has long hindered growth and economic activity.

“𝐖𝐞 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐤𝐞𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐰𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐙𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐳𝐢 𝐖𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲,” he said.

He also highlighted the constituency’s untapped potential in agriculture and fisheries. Despite abundant water resources, Zambezi West has yet to develop large-scale fish farms, sugarcane, and rice farming.

He pledged to use constituency development funds to establish commercial fish farms and promote sustainable agriculture.

The candidate stressed that it is time for people who have lived in Zambezi and understand the area to take up leadership roles.

Mapesho Kyembe has announced his intention to contest the Solwezi Central parliamentary seat in the 2026 elections, pledging to put the town and its residents first.

Kyembe highlighted the struggles faced by the community despite the town being at the heart of Zambia’s mining industry.

“𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐙𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐢𝐚’𝐬 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲, 𝐲𝐞𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐠𝐠𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐮𝐧𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐩𝐨𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐛𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐨𝐢𝐥 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐭,” he said.

Kyembe outlined a series of legislative initiatives he intends to champion if elected:

Amendment to the Companies Act – Mandatory Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR): All companies with profits above K50 million would be required to invest a minimum of 2% of their profits into community development projects, including schools, healthcare, clean water, sports, and youth empowerment.

Amendment to the Mines and Minerals Local Content Bill – Prioritizing Local Labour: Mining companies operating in Solwezi would be mandated to employ local youth and contract local businesses, boosting job creation and empowering local entrepreneurs.

Mining Revenue Reinvestment Bill – Developing North-Western Province: A fixed percentage of mineral royalties collected from Solwezi mines would be reinvested into the province for infrastructure, healthcare upgrades, and the establishment of a public university to provide higher education and skills training.

“𝐈 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐥 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐞𝐧𝐣𝐨𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐆𝐨𝐝-𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬,” Kyembe said, adding that his goal is to transform Solwezi into a city of opportunities, dignity, and hope.

He will challenge incumbent Stanford Mulusa who has argued that during his tenure Solwezi central has seen “unprecedented development.”

Mukwayaya Biye writes:

“In 2021 President Hakainde Hichilema campaigned for most of the UPND MPs. Some of them were not even known but they won because of HH.

“In 2026, each of the MPs will be on their own. We are not voting for political parties but competent individuals who will speak for us. People with a heart for this province. No more party loyalty!

Bus Stations in Choma and Kalomo vs. Solwezi (Northwestern Provincial HQ)

It’s time to put the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to real use.

Bus stations like the ones in Choma and Kalomo can and should be built using CDF. These are not massive capital projects—they're well within what CDF can handle.

Next year: NO MORE SUITS.
Each MP will stand on their own record.
No more blind party loyalty.

NORTH-WESTERN IS DEVELOPING , DEVELOPMENT DOESN’T COME LIKE CEREBRAL MALARIA— MULUSA

Solwezi Central Member of Parliament Stafford Mulusa says North-Western Province is leading the country in terms of developmental projects under President Hakainde Hichilema's leadership.

Speaking during a press briefing yesterday at the Anderson Kambela Mazoka House in Lusaka, Mulusa emphasized that the UPND government has not neglected the province.

He said that North-Western is among the top Provinces benefiting from government programs.

Mulusa said those suggesting the province is being overlooked are spreading falsehoods.

He added that development is a gradual process and “does not come like cerebral malaria.”

“The president has already given us a university. We are going to have a university in Northwestern, in Solwezi, for the whole province that will cut a lot of expenses that we incur when sending our children here to be in boarding houses. They will now be there in Northwestern province. For the first time we are going to have a university,” Mulusa said.

He further stated: “Northwestern province is not left behind, it’s moving together with Hakainde Hichilema. The people are appreciating the works of this government and president Hichilema.”

This Road from Mutanda to Chavuma Affects Us All — Our Leaders Must Speak Up

The state of the Mutanda–Chavuma road is not just a local inconvenience, it’s a regional crisis that affects everyone who lives, works, and travels in North-Western Province. Yet, the silence from our elected leaders is deafening.

Yes, Members of Parliament are not directly responsible for building roads. But they are responsible for lobbying the central government to deliver capital projects, especially critical infrastructure like this. It's their duty to advocate for their constituencies and ensure national resources are fairly distributed.

The common excuse that “it’s not the MP’s job” is simply unacceptable. Leadership is about more than showing up to Parliament , it’s about fighting for the needs of the people who put you there.

If there are no capital projects coming to the province, it is a reflection of failed representation.

Our leaders have either lost influence or lack the will to advocate effectively; either way, it’s failure.

If they can’t deliver, vote them out.

The truth is, most MPs from Northwestern have let us down, if not all. The UPND may lose most seats in the province come 2026.

The Mutanda–Chavuma Road

The road is already in terrible condition, yet someone thought it wise to dump heaps of sand in the middle—without any warning signs or indication of ongoing construction.

Let’s be serious. If there are no actual rehabilitation works happening, then remove the sand and allow motorists to at least navigate the potholes.

This is not just neglect—it’s adding salt to an already festering wound.

Do we really have leaders in this province?
