Angels in Exile records are saddened to hear of the passing of John Esplen, Owner of Overground Records and Wipe Out Music Publishing. John was a true gentleman, and had a deep love of music, especially Punk, and released both new and reissued material on his Label over the years. In 2000 he issued the Kronstadt Uprising CD, 'Insurrection', which was the first time their songs and recordings had been made available for many years. The last release on his Label was the vinyl version of this album on LP.

John released many bands on his Label, and his Anarcho Punk compilation albums were especially notable, these included 'Anti-War' (Vol #1) which featured The Kronstadt Uprising song 'Blind People', and 'Anti-State' (Vol #2) which Featured The Sinyx song 'The Plague'.

R.I.P. John

Great to read this review of The Vampire Junkies Featuring Texas Terri EP on Angels in Exile Records by Lee Cotterell in Issue 12 of Vive Le Rock magazine again. Lee nailed it when he said:

"...The end result of this collaboration is an all-out blitzkreig of punk rock 'n' roll, evoking the best bits of the New York Dolls, the Dead Boys, the Ramones and The Runaways..."

All of the known reviews of the EP can be found at the link below, although some sites may be offline now:

Angels in Exile Records were sad to hear of the passing of Vocalist Billy G Bang (aka Billy Douglas). Billy made a big impression in the UK with Glam Punk band Kill City Dragons (see video below), before retunring to America and forming Shooting Gallery with Andy McCoy.

RIP Billy...

The Taste Experience - Forty Years (28.07.84 - 28.07.24)

Started by DJ The Dream Maker on Saturday July 28th 1984, above The Blue Boar in Victoria Avenue, Southend, the club ran until Saturday December 31st 1988, and included stints at venues such as The Blue Boar / Reids, Shrimpers, Moonraker, The Royal Terrace, High Society and others, plus extended stints in London at The Purple Pussycat Club, Maximus in Leicester Square, Elle et Lui in Berwick Street, Soho and The Royal Oak at London Bridge. Special events such as The Psychedelic Boat Trip and a coach trip to a Taste Experience at The Crypt in Deptford were also undertaken.

So, on July 28th stick on an Iron Butterfly album and some Doors and Velvets, infuse the room with some strawberry smoke, strobes and bubbles and raise a glass to the stars and beyond to celebrate 40 years....

The Dream Maker's partner, Velda, did much of the original artwork for the club, some of which can be found at this site:
