Enjoyed this wine at yesterday for their 1/2 way to St. Paddy's Day Soiree! 🍀🍇
🍷 About the wine: Domaine Paul Autard Cotes du Rhone Rouge
It’s 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre, from grapes grown in several parcels just outside the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation in Courthézon. The vines average 45 years old, with the oldest being 75 years old.
It's slighly a smoky, complex wine, loaded with warm yet bright raspberry fruit, showing many of the best attributes of Châteauneuf-du-Pape (an easy day drinking wine, which we enjoyed slightly chilled).
The grapes are handpicked and transported in small boxes to avoid damaging the fruit. Autard double-sorts the harvest, de-stems, and lightly crushes the fruit to spontaneously kick off fermentation. Over 25 days, maceration and fermentation unfold in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Autard uses pigeage (punching down) plus two daily remontages (pump-overs) for 10 days to enhance extraction and aeration, giving the wine a plush texture. Each variety is vinified separately, assembled in late January, and aged in stainless steel until bottling in late February.

It was a match made in heaven: a beautiful day 🌞, live (and lively!) Irish music 🎶, and a slightly charred brick oven margherita pizza 🍕. (Word to the wise: ask for it extra crispy, unless you’re into the doughy thing).
