If anybody is able to help, Craig is a great person and Friend, he lost everything in Winnipeg after finally accomplishing one of his lifes biggest goals, only for it to come crashing down when his vehicle and all of his photography equipment and photos got stolen in Winnipeg.
It’s been over a month since the unimaginable happened and I wish I had a happy update for you.
This past month has been one of the hardest of my life. I did have a little bit of hope as the police had recovered my hard drive with a backup of my images. It was smashed but looked like the images could be recovered. I have paid $2,000 so far but as of writing this post nothing has been recovered and I’m losing hope and they are going to be gone forever.
As for my gear, despite scouring pawn shops, Facebook market place and kijiji I have so far only recovered one lens. Even after catching one of the thieves using my AirTag tracking they are not saying where my stuff is and the police have told me that my vehicle wasn’t target for my equipment but rather they knew how to steal my vehicle and probably didn’t even know how much my stuff was worth or even that it was in there. He sadly told me my $5,000 camera was probably sold for $50 and most of my stuff ended up in a dumpster.
As for insurance the total replacement cost for my lost gear is $40,000. While I thought I had a good policy as it cost me only $500 less than my home policy I received my settlement yesterday and they are only give me $10,000. This is a loss I just can’t recover from and to be honest this has left me questioning the future of my photography.
My daughter has been encouraging me to start a GoFundMe, and while I was hoping I wouldn’t need it I’m finally at the point that I need help.
If you’ve ever connected with my work or just want to support someone trying to rebuild, I’d be incredibly grateful for anything - contributions, shares, or even words of encouragement.
