With tariff impacts looming, we decided it was time to leap into the unknown and snag a set of Dawnice 16 kWh LFP batteries to replace our aging lead-acid battery bank. The swap has been life-changing with significantly more usable energy on a daily basis, but our old inverters and the passive BMS combine to make it a problem to actually charge the bank to 100%. We have a solution in the works, however...

You can see our battery bank issue here. At a calculated 82% SOC, the battery voltage drops all the way down to 46V with just a mild load of ~4,500 watts. 4.5kW is around a "40 hour" discharge load for this bank, so we shouldn't be seeing this kind of drop and even at the "100 hour" rate we see deep drops in voltage.

Our new LFP batteries are floating their way to California, finally. We opted for twelve 16kWh packs from Dawince, a seemingly generic LFP pack assembler using commodity cells. All in, $21,000 including duties and door-to-door shipping for the packs, bus bars, and cables. 192 kWh gross capacity should give us a 80% cycle capacity of 153 kWh. That may sound overkill, but the sizing is needed to bridge the "gap" between cloudy days, especially in the winter.
