Article and investigation by Croatian writer: Miljenko Jerneić
Why does Croatia not recognize Palestine?

In Croatian public life, citizens of the Republic of Croatia are increasingly asking why our country has not recognized Palestine as a state yet? This question was also raised by members of the opposition parties in the Croatian Parliament, and at the initiative of the members of Parliament, a vote was held for the first time on the issue of Croatian recognition of Palestine and "on its implementation" of the decision of the International Court of Justice on illegal settlements and occupation of Palestinian territories.

However, it should be said that "the majority of representatives of the Croatian Democratic Union party in the Croatian Parliament voted against the proposal to recognize Palestine and provide bilateral humanitarian aid, and also voted against the proposal to reach a conclusion on the implementation of the decision of the International Court of Justice on illegal settlements and occupation of Palestinian territories.
In order for the Croatian people, as well as the world public, to be aware of the vote in the Croatian Parliament on the recognition of the State of Palestine, the results of the vote were as follows - out of 151 deputies, 120 voted, 77 voted against, 41 voted in favor, and 2 abstained.
What did Croatian diplomacy say about the recognition of Palestine!?
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, Mr. Gordan Grlić Radman, recently stated that Croatia is "a completely loyal advocate of the two-state solution", and that this should be the result of negotiations between the two sides, which is why it is necessary to "revive the peace process".

On the occasion of the Day of Croatian Diplomacy, Mr. Grlić Radman said: "We certainly support the recognition of the Palestinian state, but we need to define the territory, all those attributes that actually define the state, the government, the symbols, the flag, the currency, everything that actually represents the state as a state".
Furthermore, the head of Croatian diplomacy, Mr. Grlic Radman, in his brief presentation on Palestine, noted: "What is the point of recognition if it cannot be implemented? You must have the political will on both sides."

Regarding the war in the Middle East, the minister said that Croatia's policy towards the Middle East problem has been "credible, consistent and positive" since the beginning of the conflict. Therefore, Croatia remains among the few countries that have not yet recognized Palestine as a state.

According to the data of the Palestinian authorities

Palestine has been recognized by 143 countries out of 193 member states of the United Nations. That is, three-quarters of the countries of the world have recognized Palestine as a state, which was announced by the Palestinian leadership in exile. Exactly 35 years ago, on November 15, 1988, "a few months after the beginning of the first Intifada," the late Yasser Arafat announced the "establishment of the State of Palestine" with Jerusalem as its capital. "Algeria was the first to officially recognize the new state." In this text we will list all the countries that recognized Palestine as a state by year.
1988: Algeria, Bahrain, Indonesia, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Malaysia, Mauritania, Morocco, Somalia, Tunisia, Turkey, Yemen, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cuba, Jordan, Madagascar, Malta, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United States. United Arab Emirates, Serbia, Zambia, Albania, Brunei, Djibouti, Mauritius, Sudan, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Egypt, Gambia, India, Nigeria, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, Namibia, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Vietnam, China, Burkina Faso. Faso, Comoros, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Cambodia, Mali, Mongolia, Senegal, Hungary, Greenland, North Korea, Niger, Romania, Tanzania, Bulgaria, Maldives, Ghana, Togo, Zimbabwe, Chad, Laos, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Republic of the Congo, Angola, Mozambique, Sao Tome and Principe, Gabon, Oman, Poland, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Botswana, Nepal, Burundi, Central African Republic. Belize, Bhutan, Western Sahara.
1989: Rwanda, Ethiopia, Iran, Benin, Kenya, Equatorial Guinea, Vanuatu, Philippines. 1991: Eswatini.
1992: Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Georgia, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
1994: Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Papua New Guinea

1995: South Africa, Kyrgyzstan. 1998: Malawi.

2004: Timor-Leste

2005: Paraguay.

2006: Montenegro.

2008: Costa Rica, Lebanon, Ivory Coast.

2009: Venezuela, Dominican Republic.

2011: Chile, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, Lesotho, South Sudan, Syria, Liberia, El Salvador, Honduras, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Belize, Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, Iceland.

2012: Thailand.

2013: Guatemala, Haiti, Vatican City.

2014: Lucia.
2018: Colombia.

2019: Saint Kitts and Nevis.

2023: Mexico.
Palestine has also been recognized by: Baha'is, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Barbados, Spain, Ireland, Norway, Slovenia.

When we see so many countries that have recognized Palestine, we should not be surprised that the Croatian people, as well as members of the Croatian parliament, are increasingly asking when will Croatia finally recognize Palestine as a state?
The above-mentioned countries have done so and are not waiting for a sign from anyone and we know yes, well, now Croatia can recognize Palestine as a state and freely.
Croatian politics after the former Croatian President Tudjman, especially foreign or diplomatic policy, has made a lot of mistakes, and certainly one of the biggest mistakes is not recognizing Palestine as a state.
Freezing Palestine as a state and not recognizing it as a state is not a political whim of the left, as some members of Croatian diplomacy claim. Recognizing the Palestinian state now is simply a political necessity for Croatia in order to stop the war in the Middle East once and for all, or rather the massacre of children, women, innocents and the elderly.

How to achieve final peace in Palestine!

These days, among other things, we had the opportunity to read an interview with the Israeli Ambassador to Croatia, Mr. Gary Koren, published by the "Vecernje List" on October 5, 2024. What is interesting in that interview and what should interest us is one of the answers to the question posed to Mr. Koren by the columnist of the "Vecernje List" Valentina Wizner. In response to the question: "Are we in danger of the conflict turning into a third world war?", the Israeli Ambassador to Zagreb, Gary Koren, answers: "This is not our immediate concern. It is not that we do not care, but it is our concern." The main concern is the security of the state and the duty of the state to protect its citizens.”

In that statement by the Israeli ambassador, you can see all the lack of conscience of Israeli policy, which does not care at all and does not care if a third world war breaks out. After the Israeli army destroyed 65% of the homes and buildings in Gaza and killed more than 40,000 civilians, and Israel was accused of committing genocide, Gary Koren declared sarcastically: “We do not want to create a humanitarian crisis, this is not our goal, we do not want to harm Palestinian civilians.” And when an Israeli ambassador currently in Croatia believes this, what do we expect from the Israeli government, which includes ministers who prefer to drop an atomic bomb on Gaza, and thus solve the Palestinian issue once and for all? The madness that has taken hold of the extreme right in the Israeli government regarding the creation of a Greater Israel, like a Greater Serbia, i.e. expanding the borders of the current state at the expense of other countries.

Such an imperial policy with this current Israeli government, it looks like a “ship of fools” on which ministers such as Diaspora Minister Amichai Chikli, who recently declared that it would be fair for Israel to take part of Lebanese territory, sail. (See "Al-Masaa" of October 5, 2024.)

Israel is taking advantage of this moment when elections are taking place in the United States of America, and is blackmailing America at every step. The Jews will also be happier if the Americans deal with Iran, that is, they want to lead the United States into another unnecessary war in which American soldiers, not Israeli soldiers, will die again.

There is no longer any dispute that Israel committed crimes and genocide in Gaza, we can read in the Serbian newspaper "Novosti" of October 11, 2024, which published an interview with the Palestinian journalist Youssef Al-Helou, who currently lives in London, under the title: "The entire Palestinian people are being punished for Hamas attacks." “During this genocide, hundreds of civilians were killed in the West Bank, attacks by Jewish settlers increased, and the spread of illegal Jewish settlements accelerated,” Yousef al-Hilu says of the events in Gaza. “There are now about 12,000 Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli prisons, including at least 300 children. These are also the hostages that Israel holds, holding them without specific charges and without trial. The Israeli government is implementing a vision that it has long had, which is to expel and destroy the Palestinians.

History did not begin on October 7. People have suffered and are suffering because of colonialism, occupation and mass murder for 76 years. And all this continues to happen under the pretext of Israeli self-defense.”

The best illustration of Israel’s lack of interest in a just peace is the article entitled: “Recognizing Palestine is logical. But not without guarantees for Israel’s security,” by Evan Goldstein, published in the Express on October 11, 2024. Goldstein, of course, calls for recognition of the Palestinian state, but in accordance with UN Resolutions 242 of 1967 and 338 of 1973, and here, our respected historian, sees the right path leading to the final solution. If Goldstein had any scruples and sincerity, he would have proposed the final solution of partitioning Palestine into Arab and Jewish states in accordance with the UN vote of November 29, 1947. (See attached!) Regarding the UN proposal of 1947, Goldstein says: “It (Palestine, author’s note) has no defined territory, because the international community believes that it should be that defined by the UN resolution of 1947.” "The annex clearly shows the borders of Palestine as a state, and this proposal made by the United Nations in 1947 is the most just. Once again, Evan Goldstein wants to mislead public opinion about the so-called justice that the historian is widely offering in favor of Israel, and at the expense of Palestine as a state. Among the Jews, there are intelligent people who think honestly when it comes to ending the war between Jews and Palestinians. Evo Goldstein certainly does not belong to them. Israel must end its occupation of Palestine and its brutal war, reach a ceasefire and give the Palestinians the opportunity to establish their state according to the 1947 UN proposal, not the 1967 UN proposal. Not all Palestinians are Hamas or Hezbollah, and there are intelligent, sober and wise people with whom the Jews must sit at the table and resolve Palestinian-Israeli relations once and for all without interfering in their pockets. This is important for both countries, but it is also very important for the security of the entire world.

Anti-Semitism on the Rise in Croatia
It is not surprising that Croatia tops the list of anti-Semitic countries in the Balkans and in Europe!
When we want to evaluate, it is enough to look at history!
Croatia's history is full of blood!
Croatian Holocaust: Terror and Death in Fascist Croatia!

This is due to the brutal methods used during the Holocaust in Croatia. Jewish life will be almost extinguished forever in this country.

In 1939, in a period of extreme tension throughout #أوروبا , and as soon as #هتلر had rearmed and prepared for a war that was already inevitable at that time, Germany invaded and occupied Poland with blood and fire. Two years later, in 1941, Germany, in agreement with Italy, decided to divide the Balkans territorially. The fate of the Jews of the continent would change forever after the start of the war.
The territory of present-day Croatia and part of Bosnia-Herzegovina is divided between the two fascist powers, which use the most brutal methods, including bombing against the civilian population; little by little, Bulgaria, Greece, Serbia and Romania will surrender and surrender to the wishes and military plans of the N***s, who are already the masters of the continent. Yugoslavia simply ceases to exist and a N**i puppet administration is installed in Belgrade.
Moreover, in the same year 1941, to further contribute to the destruction of #يوغوسلافيا , #إيطاليا sponsored the creation of the so-called Independent Croatian State led by the leader of the local fascists, Ante Pavelić, a sad figure in memory who later surrendered. the physical expulsion of all non-Croat elements from the country. Between 1941 and the end of the war, Pavelić's regime was characterized by unbridled brutality and collaboration with the N***s in the extermination of the Jews, but with greater enthusiasm, even than the National Socialists themselves, as some Italian fascists condemned with astonishment.
Thus, during World War II, Croatia became the scene of one of the most horrific genocides in history. With the approval and cooperation of N**i Germany and the Catholic Church, represented by Aloisi Stepinac, the Bishop of Zagreb, the so-called Independent Croatian State would cooperate with the N***s in the “Final Solution” and eliminate all N***s for four long years. Not Croat Ante Pavelic, a fervent and bloodthirsty Catholic, created and led the Ustachas or Nationalists party with the help of the Italian fascist regime in Rome, where he would receive political asylum before coming to power. Two months after the N***s occupied all of Yugoslavia, the Ustasha party announced a program of forced conversion to Catholicism and the deportation and extermination of the country’s two million Orthodox Serbs; Jews and Roma would not escape the ethnic cleansing plans.
Also, from the moment the new regime was established, the collaborationist authorities in Zagreb issued a series of racist and discriminatory measures very similar to the Nuremberg Laws issued by the N***s, which prohibited Jews from practicing all kinds of professions and subjected them to oppression. A harsh life that could lead to their being forced to leave the cities and imprisoned in extermination camps. Thus, the millennium-old presence of Jews in Croatia, dating back to Roman times, would be ended by the actions of the extreme Croatian nationalists.

For these payments, a well-known and handsome SS officer named Kurt Walheim, future Secretary-General of the United Nations and later President of Austria, would arrive, a symbol of the double standards with which the West treated the Holocaust and its war criminals afterward. Walheim would never be tried and would become the most visible symbol of Austrian shame in the face of the drama of European Jewry.

In the same way as the Jews, thousands of Gypsies, Serbs and other non-Aryans were executed by the new Croatian authorities. In Jasenovac, the largest concentration camp at the time, thousands were killed with the help of Germany and Italy and the complicit silence of the influential Croatian Catholic Church and fascism. The famous tourist city of Dubrovnik would be within the borders of the new state, in the Italian military zone of influence; a small Sephardic community would disappear forever. (Today, only six Jews live in that city, as the person involved in these lines was able to verify.)

However, despite the existence of an organized network of resistance against the regime in the former Yugoslavia, nothing could be done to stop the horrific massacres that took place, mainly, in the Jasenovac camp. Victims’ testimonies speak of beheadings, random killings, horrific torture, and an unspeakable system of terror, humiliation and extermination. One of the main characteristics of the Croatian Holocaust is the speed with which it developed, as the Ustasha machine was inflexible, lacked humanity and behaved in an astonishing manner when implementing its plans.
Responsibility of the Croatian fascist regime

In August of the same year in which the fascist Croatian state was formed, 6,000 Croatian Jews were exterminated and another 20,000 were sent to concentration camps. Similarly, in the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the N***s massacred approximately 9,000 Jews in collaboration with local Muslims who, under the influence of their leaders, such as Hajj Amin al-Husseini, the Grand M***i of Jerusalem, showed themselves to be hostile to Jews. The Grand M***i, who was later persecuted for crimes against humanity by the Allied authorities, continued to organize and support the formation of an SS unit - the Handzar Brigade - composed exclusively of Bosnian Muslims. This unit, like all those that fought alongside the Germans in Yugoslav territory, committed horrific crimes against humanity, but above all against the civilian population of Serbs, Roma and Jews. Among all these events, in addition to the crimes of the Ustasha, there is an abundance of graphic material; Above all, the images of the Grand M***i, uncle of Palestinian leader Arafat, meeting Hi**er and reviewing Bosnian forces allied with the N***s are impressive.

However, in Yugoslavia, unlike other territories occupied by the Germans in World War II, resistance could be verified throughout the entire Yugoslav territory. Thus, at the end of 1944, with the Germans overwhelmed on all fronts, Tito's partisans led the resistance throughout almost the entire territory of the former Yugoslavia. As for Croatia, the collapse of fascist Italy, the continuing defeats of the N***s in almost all of Europe and the weakness of the Pavelić regime, which had never been able to separate itself from its external allies and achieve a social base that would have allowed it to do so, led to its political survival and the disintegration and an end more typical of the "fall of the gods" of the regime that was destined to rule Croatia for more than "1000 years".

Pavelic, who always enjoyed the support of the Catholic Church, even received by Pope Pius, died in "oblivion" and disgrace in 1959. The balance of Pavelic's bloody regime is a sad memory for most Croats, but especially for the Roma, Jewish and Serb minorities, this will be the nearly 800,000 people who were executed in death camps and in villages and towns subjected to the criminal gang of ethnic cleansing. The silence of the Catholic Church, combined with the acquiescence and support of the fascist regimes in Germany and Italy, would allow one of the greatest massacres in the history of World War II to be committed.
The fall of Ante Pavelic's regime and the end of the war

In 1945, with the support of the Allies and to a lesser extent the Soviets, Tito seized power in Belgrade after the defeat and subsequent flight of the Germans. The Croatian fascist regime had collapsed, as we have said before, and Pavelic, having committed many misdeeds and crimes, fled, leaving his henchmen, officers and ministers to their fate, many of whom were later tried and executed #الشيوعي by the new authorities without a second thought.

The Jasenovac camp, which had witnessed a revolt of prisoners and detainees against their guards a few weeks before the end of the war, was liberated by Tito's forces, who, however, found little evidence against the Ustasha due to the facilities and evidence in the Jasenovac camp. The crimes had been destroyed before. But before the Ustasha left, they killed two thousand Jewish, Serb and Gypsy prisoners, in a kind of political revenge for their loss of power.

The already established collaborationist role of the Catholic Church during the Croatian fascist regime also caused problems in the new communist state and will of course provide enough space for other articles. After the war, the evil Archbishop Stepinac, Pavelic’s main collaborator and supporter during the years of his terrible government, was tried and convicted, despite never having committed war crimes and showing no remorse for the silence and high degree of collaboration of many priests and nuns with the fascist authorities in the indiscriminate killing of civilians. There are many reported and documented cases of simple Franciscan leaders, priests and monks being involved in the massacres committed by Pavelic’s regime.

After #استقلال Croatia recently, in 1991, Stepinac was rehabilitated and today his remains lie in the Zagreb Cathedral, where the late Pope John Paul II came to pray without even mentioning the thousands of victims caused by the #بافيليتش regime. #الصرب As well as other communities, he was offended by this contempt directed by the Supreme Pontiff in Rome towards the pain and suffering caused by #الأوستاشا . At least, at the time of #الحرب and the turmoil in the former Yugoslavia, it was possible to avoid honoring at least a controversial figure.

Once the Second World War was over, in relation to Croatia, it is worth remembering that, as was to be expected, the new communist authorities mercilessly repressed thousands of Pavelic supporters, executing many of them without trial, and all those suspected of collaboration with the previous world war. The regime was removed from office and purged. The Allies, who considered Pavelic's former supporters to be their enemies, also handed over thousands of Croatian and Slovenian refugees to the communist authorities, who generally held them in harsh prison conditions if not mercilessly executed them. Nationalist movements of all nationalities were banned in Yugoslavia until very recently.

The number of Jewish victims in the Croatian Holocaust can be estimated at between 45,000 and 57,000, and the total victims in the former Yugoslavia are at most 63,000 (source: Yehuda Bauer and Robert Roset, "Estimated Jewish Losses in the Holocaust," in The Holocaust Encyclopedia, New York: Macmillan, 1990).

After the war ended and the country fell to the communists, the remaining Jews in Yugoslavia fled to Israel beginning in 1945, and the remaining communities today are very few and far between; a rough calculation would put the total number of Jews living in the six former Yugoslav republics - #البوسنة and #الهرسك , Croatia, Slovenia, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia - at just under a thousand. A sad end for an ancient people who lived in lands where they always found refuge and respect.

to the Croatian writer Mr. "Miljenko Jerneić" on the publication of his new book.

The Croatian writer "Miljenko Jerneić" has published a new book called "Pax Optima Rerum"
The writer says in an article for our organization:
In my latest book "Friend of the Truth" there are also articles about Palestine and Israel as well as about the Middle East. One of the articles talks about how the Palestinians changed the strategy and tactics of the war against Israel, a war that Israel cannot win in the long run. That is, it is about the fact that at first the countries were at war with Israel, and in recent years there were individual armed groups such as Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis and armed groups in Iraq, Yemen and Syria. Many of them are supported by Iran, which wants to wipe Israel off the face of the earth, and sees the Jewish state as a cancer that must be removed from the Arab world forever.

Following this introduction, these days we were able to read interviews in the Croatian media with respected experts on the situation in the Middle East, many of whom confirmed my thesis mentioned above. Thus, in "National" from October 1, 2024, we can read an interview with the director of the European Institute at Bar-Ilan University, Mr. Shlomo Shapiro, who talks, among other things, about how Israel is currently fighting on five fronts. "The first front is against Hamas in Gaza, the second front is against Hezbollah in Lebanon, the third is against the Houthis in Yemen, the fourth is against the rebels in the Golan Heights, and the fifth is direct Iranian attacks from Iran." Armed groups from Iraq and Syria should also be added to that, and we reach seven fronts.

" As written in the issue of "Globus" from October 2, 2024. Incidentally, in this issue of "Globus" several articles were published that talk about the war in the Middle East between Israel and armed Islamic groups, the most important of which are Hamas and Hezbollah. Davor Stern openly says that "Israel cannot win a war against radical Islamic groups. “I won’t say Arabs, because Iran is not Arab, so it plays the most important role in this whole conflict, because it supports these groups and is looking for something.”

This is completely unrealistic, which is a Palestinian state from the sea to the center of Israel.

In his additional presentation on Palestine and Israel, Stern also mentions the slogan "Jordan to the sea, Palestine will be free," which implicitly means the destruction of the State of Israel and the continuation of the war.

Davor Stern in the final idea of his own vision of events in Palestine.

He says: "I try to be realistic, no matter how difficult it is to be objective, but I fear that Israel will not be able to win such a war, certainly not forever." He immediately continues a little further: "... but the war cannot be won by a country with a population of nine million, a country with deep ideological and religious roots, and in which there are two million Arabs whom the Israelis do not trust without a state. Their finger in their pockets, because at any moment they could become a fifth column. In addition, they also have a part of the Orthodox Jews who do not recognize the State of Israel, because the Messiah did not come to them, and do not join the Jews in the Israeli army and do not pay taxes, and live on state benefits."

In the same weekly, Bojo Kovačević points out, among other things: "...it is clear that Israel sees the solution to the Palestinian issue as the irreversible occupation of the West Bank and the extermination of the Palestinians in Gaza".

Kovačević believes that "recognizing Palestine is a logical step in relation to Resolution 181, and it is strange that the recent recognitions of some European countries came so late".

Žarko Fuhovski also believes that Palestine should be recognized.
Jarko Fuhovski says: "...that is why the recognition of Palestine is important because, among other things, it will determine the borders.

The same applies to Israel regarding the borders, because for more than half a century the state has been grossly violating international law by occupying territories that do not belong to it in any way more than they do.

The city of Knin belongs to Serbia or 20 percent of Ukraine belongs to Russia. Hrvoje Klasic is on the same track with the recognition of Palestine as a state: “The idea of two states seems acceptable in theory, but the question is on which borders, because the one that was defined in 1947 never worked. Does this mean that Israel should leave the territories it expanded into?” Ivo Goldstein

He also believes that in order to solve the Israeli-Palestinian problem, it is necessary to “insist on the concept of two states.” Dana Losa, a political scientist, and Srdan Dvornik, a political scientist and activist, advocate the recognition of Palestine as a state, and they say with Bozo Kovačević that “Croatia should have recognized Palestine long ago, just like Slovenia. Why not, this is already a question for Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and Croatian diplomacy.”

What is most needed at this moment is an end to the war in the Middle East so that political negotiations between the Palestinians and the Jews can begin. The world is threatened by the same world that has been destroyed by wars twice, and I fear that a third war will destroy the world completely.
