Trying to clean up the interior that’s in pretty bad shape. The chrome garnish mouldings look good after a cleaning and waxing . Gonna try and mount the driver door interior panel on some new cardboard and see if that works ok. I have some new carpet but not sure if I’m using it yet or keeping the original. Plus nothings says 1980’s quite like some Sparkomatic speakers.

Flashback got outside today with its brother for a little sun and a good scrubbing with steel wool and comet. Also got the driver window reinstalled . A little more cleaning and scrubbing tomorrow and then it’s back inside to get the instrument clusters removed and a new speedometer installed. After that back to some mechanical attention.

Found some more goodies from the 84 Hot Rod Super Nationals . Program, frisbee, license plate, sew on patch and a participant plate. I’m sure the guy who kept this stuff put away for 40 years was as surprised to find a buyer as I was to find it. The program has one full color page of the Flashback 57 as the grand prize.

I really need this thing on a lift for a while . Trying to clean 40 years of oil, grease and gunk on your back isn’t the most fun part of this project but it’s coming along. Chrome oil pan, oil filter and front steering arms look pretty good still on the are cleaned and scrubbed with steel wool.

I was wondering how the rearend housing had gotten covered in grease before I cleaned it . I figured it had lost a lot so I got new grease and limited slip additive and then find the drain plug stripped or the housing actually. So I stopped there while I figure out the best solution. Anyone ever retreaded the housing and installed a larger plug?

Been cleaning up the front suspension this week. It had been sprayed with flat black paint at some point so I tried lots of solvents and cleaners along with steel wool and brushes to remove the black while trying to preserve the continental orange. I also cleaned 40 years of grease. Of coarse I repainted the brake drums. It’s not perfect but it did turn out well for a car built 40 years ago.

While the wheels were off and getting polished I started cleaning the frame and suspension. The rear end had obviously leaked grease for decades and was completely covered so I spent a couple days laying under it on the creeper with some purple power, brake cleaner, steel wool and a bunch of different brushes. It’s cleaning up pretty nice for 40 year old grime. There’s also lots of mud. I mean who drove this car in the mud? Crazy. Lots of chrome under this car. The backing plates, u bolts and shock plates plus the shocks are all chrome.
