I have just uploaded a blog to my new website (all by myself!) I don’t bang on about Otto Eckhart’s Ordeal and insist you buy it; I bang on about the drama of how I came to write it, about the weird triggers of creativity.
Do please read it. It was a big deal at the time.
You can either cut and paste this link or just click on the website link on my profile.

The postman is running back to his van. I just hugged him! So delighted to be republishing Otto Eckhart’s Ordeal. This, the first from Amazon - and the quality is great. Phew!
I really don’t care if it sells. I have got it back. I feel like the frantic parent who has been handed their toddler, lost for an age in a heaving crowd.
I have ghosted some great stories for very impressive and lovely people, but I’m sure they will forgive me for saying that a published novel has been the high point in 27 years writing books.
Writing fiction is the toughest gig, more craft and imaginative hard labour than natural gift and inspiration.
With a blank page before you every day, you don’t quite know where you’re going or what lies in store. You left John O’Groats and you’re heading to Land’s End. That’s all you know.
The old version is still out on Amazon - you can’t remove it. The new one has the cover above. It will soon be in eBook on Kindle & Apple etc and on the High Street if sellers choose to order it. It’s sad I cannot urge people to buy in a store. My royalty would be 40p. Audiobook and new novel in 2025.

Thirty-three years after Tim Berners-Lee unveiled the first website, I have caught up and launched my own. The designers have done a lovely job.
I have written my first blog there in which - no doubt to the applause of a one-handed man in an empty room - I will post about what I am writing and publishing, and about what I am reading.
I get through two books a week, one fiction, one non-fiction, so I hope my recommendations will be of some interest

I love these bare designs of the front and back covers (text to be added!) for the novel Otto Eckhart's Ordeal that I am planning to re-release later in the autumn. The image was created by Izzy Barrett, aka Mudd Bexley, who has been shortlisted for the World Illustration Awards 2024. The book was also shortlisted, for the 2021 Wilbur Smith Novel of the Year, so I hope that makes for a winning combination!

I have neglected this Facebook space all summer, just too goddam busy writing and publishing books! I have turned myself into a mini-publishing house, staffing all departments bar Design & Illustration (thank God, I have brilliant talents to do that!)

When working with traditional publishers, I just emerge from my shed with a manuscript and hand it in like prep, and they take care of all the production (and some of the marketing). Launching my Indie Publishing business has been a ton of work, learning on the hoof, putting the theory I studied out there into the marketplace. I have just about mastered it and now plan to spend a little more time promoting what I produce and posting about writing and publishing in general.

I will be be pushing my books here but I'm more excited about giving an insight, or glimpses, into being an author and into the world of publishing. It gets lonely in my cold shed so it will be fun to engage. A recurring theme will be showing that full-time writers, fighting with millions over a small pot of gold, don't spend their days lying around in silk dressing gowns, smoking cigarillos and lacquering their hair with coconut pomade.

This third Badger book, the last of the series for this year, is the longest, almost double the pages of Badger Cricket and Golf. If it turns out to be the funniest that will be less to do with me, and more to do with the rich humour to be found on the terraces and British football culture.

I published this last week, the first in a series, beautifully illustrated by Mudd Bexley, a bit of fun for the shelf in the loo (but no perforated pages in this edition!) Please do forward it to anyone you suspect of being a cricket 'badger'. It went to #1 in Amazon's Cricket Bestsellers on its first day and stayed there (above the mighty Wisden Almanac!) over the weekend. So, off at a dash but I need a good performance in the middle order now. Forgive me, I will be badgering you (sorry again) with the odd post from time to time
