Lost in America Music is delighted to announce our first post-pandemic release — and it was worth the wait. Appropriately titled “Downtime,” Lazy Old Son’s third long-player brings back together Peter Gorman (vocals), Scott Aaron (guitars), Jamie Wagner (bass, keyboards), Paul Ovink (drums, percussions) and Lisa Schrag (vocals). Recorded at SHIRK Studios in Chicago, the album is out today on all your favorite streaming services and in purchasable from Amazon.

Here's a word from head LOSer Peter Gorman about "Downtime":
“To begin with, this wasn’t going to happen, and once begun it was abandoned several times. The songs are all from before 2020, from Before Times, and then came the downtime. It took quite a while, as so much does these days. Eventually we rehearsed at some warehouse space in Chicago, I don’t know exactly where. Then we went to Shirk Studios, recording the vocals and rhythm section live, returning four months later to add the extras, keyboards and backing vocals and a bit more guitar.

We called it Downtime, of which there’s been too much, but relaxing too if you limit the dosage. A batch of songs about screwing up but hoping for redemption, and nostalgia for the pre-pill days, and summer in a college town, and staying awake all night to avoid breaking up, and that wonder drug called coffee. And though aging is inevitable, songs about aging aren’t, but some of those are here too.

So here it is, finally. A splendid time is guaranteed for some.”

This is not a post we hoped to write for a long time. John Prine has passed. Goddammit, and god damn this virus. Some years back, John and his management were gracious enough to let our little label produce a tribute album to him, featuring local Chicago musicians. It was a labor of love and respect and fandom. Every artist involved wanted to honor him, even (and maybe especially) when they twisted his songs into shapes they'd never been in before. Anything more we could say about him would be unequal to the task. He was the very best and there will be none more like him. RIP, postman. May you enjoy that nine-mile-long cigarette.

Nice mention for a terrific tune. One of 10 gems on "A Time to Stumble." Check out the entire recording. It's the perfect accompaniment to a conflicted or perhaps indifferent holiday season.

I’m really digging the latest single off of Lazy Old Son’s new album: A Time To Stumble. The single is called “Wide Awake And Far Away” and it has a lovely little tribal drum intro that quickly turns into a 60s inspired overture.

Lazy Old Son's second long-player, "A Time to Stumble," is now on Spotify for your listening pleasure. If it strikes a chord, you're invited to lay down a few bucks and buy the record digitally through iTunes, Amazon and CD Baby or snag yourself a physical copy from CD Baby. It’s time to make America lost again. And here’s our nominee to get the job done: Lost in America Music’s very first release of 2016, “A Time to Stumble” by Lazy Old Son. The collective’s second recording (following 2010’s “The Saints of Humboldt Park”), “A Time to Stumble” features the songwriting and musicianship of Washington, DC-based Peter Gorman and a supporting cast of players from Chicago, Cincinnati and the nation’s capital. Yoking together a bevy of influences from Luna to Yo La Tengo, Belle and Sebastian to the Kinks, “A Time to Stumble” is a capsule of the uncertainties, insecurities and, yes, the moments of bliss evident in the everyday. It’s out today, in both CD and digital form, at CD Baby, with other outlets to follow. Check it out, and lose yourself in one of the best records we’ve heard all year.
