Capacity to create music
This is the highest level in the music ability
chain. All the music we are capable of
enjoying are performed by people with
performance ability and all the music that is
performed come from those who create
them. In other words there would be
nothing to perform if no one was creating
and there would be nothing to enjoy if no
one was performing what was created.
Creating music is something quite involving
and wide. It is not as simple as jotting
down a few lines that rhyme. It is more
than humming a four line tune that sounds
nice. It goes beyond drumming an
interesting beat. It certainly goes beyond
weaving a sequence of nice sounding
chords on the piano or guitar. It is all of
these and more.
It is the usage of the elements of music in a
creative and original way that leaves its
unique mark when performed and enjoyed.
It is an ability that enables a piece of music
to say without words what you felt and
thought. People who create music seem to
be in touch with another world altogether.
It is a world where sound replaces words
in order for something to be said, thought
or felt.
A song is not really the lyrics we add to the
melody or tune. How come we hear a
rhythm from a drum, a melody from a flute
or the harmony from a guitar and feel
arrested by something within what we
hear? It is the power of creating music that
is at work.
Developing the ability to perform music
contributes greatly to the diverse skills
needed for creating music. That is not to
say those unable to perform music cannot
create it. The world has witnessed the
abilities of many music creators who do
not necessarily perform music like
professional music performers. What is
unique though is that they all have a
sufficient working knowledge of music
performance.
Creating music would range from basic to
complex. It takes some talent and polishing
to really create a masterpiece that remains
timeless. However, it is possible for those
who feel they are less endowed to have a
go and make their mark in today’s world. It
just requires the right knowledge, the
diligence to learn and the patience to wait.
The most talented people don’t always
come out with the best products if they are
not consistently polishing up.
In conclusion, I am challenging you to
explore all the opportunities available to
you to be the best you can be in the field of
music. With the right approach and the
right understanding, you could stand out in
your own right with what you are capable
of, based on your potential.
