Lynn Boggess doesn’t paint the landscape — he wrestles with it. Using cement trowels instead of brushes, he captures the raw immediacy of Appalachia’s wilderness, where sunlight, rain, and mud all leave their mark.

🍂 The Haen Gallery presents the 19th Annual Lynn Boggess Solo Show, on view through November 30 at 52 Biltmore Ave.

Seasoned art collectors seek the work of those who’ve long been on their radar. But serendipity can transform a discoverer into an admirer — and, finally, into a bonafide collector.

Such is the case with Doug and Diane Corkhill, Whittier residents who discovered Brad Dodson, the artist who made Mud Dabbers Pottery & Crafts (the name is a play on mud-dauber wasps) into a must-stop for handmade stoneware-pottery lovers.

This piece by Asheville artist David Sheldon draws on an “ecstatic moment” experienced in the bonsai garden at The North Carolina Arboretum. Sheldon uses the viscosity of paint itself to embody sunlight, giving it literal weight and presence on the canvas.

In Old Fort, one couple’s “forever kitchen” proves that accessibility and style can go hand in hand.

Built by Scroggs Construction Services, the space combines sweeping mountain views with Certified Aging-in-Place design — think easy-to-reach ovens, wide clearances, and intuitive fixtures.
