Join travel writer Emily Pennington as she explores the wonders of Lisbon, Portugal before taking off on a very idyllic cruise along the Douro River.

"I’m sitting on my room’s private veranda as the warm breeze tosses a lock of hair across my cheek, cold beer in my hand, perfectly spiced chicken piri piri on my plate. To my right are a series of gently rolling hillsides, cultivated with centuries-old vineyards that seem to stretch out into infinity. There’s a honeyed glow to my rural surroundings, as the sun begins to sink beyond Portugal’s Douro River Valley," says writer Emily Pennington.

City councilors in Boston have voted 12-1 to make Boston a sanctuary city for members of the LGBTQ+ community.

The designation came after Councilor-at-Large Julia Mejia and District 9 Councilor Liz Breadon called on the city to adopt measures to support transgender people. NBC10 Boston reported that Mejia said Boston wouldn’t back down on Wednesday. "We’re seeing attacks on our trans loved ones, and here on the local level, a lot of folks are feeling helpless," said Mejia.

A new law was passed in Hungary this week banning all Pride events.

The draconian legislation officially makes holding a public Pride event a criminal offense according to Outright International. The bill, which was pushed through hastily thanks to an initiative from nationalist-populist Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, imposes crackdowns on civil rights throughout the country leading up to the 2026 general elections. It passed with a wide margin, with 136 votes in favor and only 27 against. The bill is aligned with Orbán’s rhetoric surrounding LGBTQ+ rights, i.e. that they are a threat to society, namely minors.

Who created the hamburger?

Leading contenders include 15-year-old Charlie Nagreen, selling flattened ground beef and onions between two pieces of bread at an 1885 county fair in Seymour, Wisconsin. Other historians back "Uncle" Fletcher Davis of Athens, Texas, who showcased his 1880’s ground beef patty on a hot buttered bun at the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair. While historians debate the origins of this American dive classic, we’re listing some of our favorite burger joints and eateries.
