If you too long for the smell of black metal 1996, it would be wise to pay attention to Finnish pagans Iku-Turso, who since their inception in 2017 have quietly ensured that flame continues to burn brightly in the dark. Again forging the indomitable spirit of Satyricon, Isengard, Trelldom, Emperor and the like into the finest steel of the current age, on their latest EP / mini-album 'Wolfheart' the demons of Sovereign (Korpituli), F. (Wrathage), Lafawijn (Salacious Gods) and Anzillu (CURSE UPON A PRAYER) offer three powerfully epic hymns and a stirring interlude, before the final coup de grace of a truly worthy bonus Emperor official cover. Superbly written and produced, it's hard to find flaw - it appears the best Norwegian black metal these days is not from Norway but from these Finns, and they are getting better with every release. Available now via Purity-Through-Fire and the band's own label Korpitiuli. Total support. Hails.
