Tumblr: www.izodculture.tumblr.com We speak up because silence is complicity.

ZOD Culture exists to work on two major trajectories: the first is a celebration of creative endeavors and the artists behind such endeavors – the musician, the painter, the photographer, the designer, the filmmaker and the writer. The second is to drive social change by fusing creativity with critical thought to facilitate revealing discussions regarding socio-political topics in an attempt to of

fer alternatives to mainstream perceptions. The dominant understanding of the world is deeply problematic and so are the media corporations who - motivated by their corporate interests -, have built their irresponsible normative narratives upon the breaking backs of the misrepresented. ZOD Culture offers an alternative to dominant narratives by exposing mainstream media’s binary oppositions and agenda-fuelled reporting, unveiling the profound complexities of past and present events that are constructing our current and prospective realities. As Egalitarians living in a world which seems hell bent on destroying itself, there are moments when we have felt alone, drowning in our anxieties about the state of our world. Haunted by humanity’s ills and driven by its unattained potential due, in part, to the abundance of accessible misrepresentations prompting mass misunderstanding and consequently licensing discriminatory action on a global scale. We have been derogatorily referred to as ‘over thinkers’, ‘idealists’, and ‘dreamers’ - I believe that we are these things. I believe that those who demand social change could not possibly be composed of anything different. ZOD Culture aims to build a community of change makers who have, at one point or another, felt alone in their aspirations for egalitarian reform. We are united by our exclusion, by our humanistic dispositions, by our unwillingness to be passive bystanders. Today we have built a community of contributors branching across the United Kingdom, the United States, India, Pakistan, Kenya and Germany. As we continue to cultivate this ever-growing international network of creative freethinkers - who are in constant contact with one another, who are eager to share their ideas, critiques and unique experiences - we hope to design a truly multifaceted platform of expression. A platform concerned with tackling ignorance and providing support to those concerned with promoting creativity and actively advocating a more equitable world. Our community is not simply made up of our readership. Our community is composed of those who speak up and speak loudly, whether their mouthpiece is a pen, a brush, a camera or a keyboard and mouse. This is your platform just as much as it is the platform of those who created it - the future of ZOD Culture is embedded in the hearts and minds of each member of our revolutionary community and all those who will one day join us in exposing the injustices hiding in between society’s dominant normative narratives. This is a project driven by ideas and unique perspectives, the likes of which you embody.

"I’m not sure if this is related to intelligence, or even happiness or loneliness, or if it’s simply the ability to feel comfortable in one’s own skin. Many great people appeared to have struggled with this and succumbed to their own morbid thoughts of self-hatred and shame." - Edward Learman

"In 1928 Virginia Woolf presented a series of essays. She made the connection between achieving maximum creative potential as an individual, and having a mind (psychological space or ‘room’) free from the worries of domesticity or poverty."

"Ideologies and phrases that litter regenerative propaganda: terms like ‘place making’, ‘local identity’ and ‘community’, appear to paint the picture of locality; when in reality, the complexities at street level are often misunderstood."

"We’re being driven away from one another, under the guise of solidarity. Compartmentalized, like cell-blocks in a prison system; drawn apart – enclosed – bondaged within the confines of a rampant neoliberal ideology that has all but taken control of our cultural spaces." - Benjamin Levine
