The Richard Sen remixes of John Grant were commissioned in 2016 but were never released. Since then, enquiries about release have continued to this day. Sen's remix of 'Disappointing' featured on Andrew Weatherall's Beats In Space mix in 2016 and was a staple in his DJ sets, especially at ALFOS. Charlie Bones, Ivan Smagghe and Optimo also supported it at the time. This release on Sen's DIYC label follows his much hyped album, India Man. In addition, Richard's compilation, Dream The Dream on Ransom Note (2023) was voted Best British Compilation by DJ Mag. These remixes have also been gaining much interest from the listeners of Sen's weekly show on Do!! You!!! Radio.

C-ROK, Hammersmith & City / Circle Line, 1988.

My final train piece, painted alongside HATE at Gloucester Rd yard (The Big G). Probably my best piece in terms of traditional NY style lettering. I admit, my style wasn't as good as many of the London stylemasters, but I was happy with this one. It took me 3 years to get good, and then when I finally did, I gave up and retired from illegal graffiti. The journey is the destination, as they say.

Train graffiti is regarded as the 'holy grail' by those in the subculture. You risk your life (death by electrocution) and freedom (imprisonment if caught) for creative expression and no financial gain. Modern society has become increasingly controlled. Illegal graffiti, especially on trains, is about resistance to control - from the authorities, media, society, etc. It's also about feeling alive! Going to the edge and crossing boundaries that most are afraid to do. The reward is greater than the risk.

We seem to be currently witnessing a golden era of train graffiti. Check out the Central and Bakerloo lines. Seeing pieces running and bombed out carriages puts a smile on my face. Massive respect to all the train writers keeping the culture alive. Please keep pi***ng off the public, media, and clueless Banksy fans who 'don't like the tagging but like street art'.

We’re buzzing to announce that, once again, we’re bringing Richard Sen back up to McChuills. 🙏🏻

Both his previous appearances here have been absolutely off the scale, so getting him back in the Acid Arch was always going to happen. If you were at either one, you know what we’re talking about and if you weren’t, trust us, you really, really don’t want to miss him again.

His sound draws from 1970s, ‘80s and ‘90s influences, but places them firmly in the present, with a genre-fluid selection seamlessly flowing back and forth between retro and future, dark and light, disco, Italo, wonky house, electro, breakbeat and deep techno.

As well as DJing, Richard has released music under the guises of Bronx Dogs (1997-2003) and Padded Cell (2005-2012), as well as remixing everyone from Bryan Ferry and John Grant to Unloved (David Holmes’ band) and LCD Soundsystem.

Support on the night comes from the immense Chris Scott (Bound In Sound) & Ally Howie (Box NRG) so get down early.
