✨🚀 On February 10th, on her 150th birthday, we were thrilled to unveil the official account of “Elvira Notari: Beyond Silence,” the upcoming documentary feature on Italy’s pioneering first woman filmmaker.

ℹ️ Directed by Valerio Ciriaci, produced by Parallelo 41 Produzioni, Awen Films, and Cinecittà_official, with support from NYU Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò – “Elvira Notari: Beyond Silence” chronicles the life and work of the silent film director Elvira Notari (1875-1946). Despite directing hundreds of films that captivated audiences from Naples to New York, Elvira was relegated to the margins of history for half a century. The documentary interweaves voices of those who celebrate her legacy today – from the experts who rediscovered her films to contemporary artists reimagining her vision through new works – to resurrect Elvira’s singular vision. More than a biography, “Elvira Notari: Beyond Silence” is a prismatic portrait of an artist who continues to inspire new creative pathways.

🔜 Follow us here for more info and updates about the film – a prestissimo!

Questa domenica 26 gennaio If Only I Were That Warrior torna a Roma grazie a ANPI San Lorenzo e alla rete Yekatit 12-19 Febbraio!

🇺🇸📽️ We've wrapped three magical days filming for "In Transit: The Cinema of Elvira Notari"–following Teresa Saponangelo in the role of Elvira Notari in a new photo project by Cristina Vatielli. One of several initiatives our documentary follows in tracing the rediscovery of Italy's first woman filmmaker, a pioneer whose whose impact stretched from Naples to New York but was overlooked for too long.

A documentary produced by Awen Films, Parallelo 41, and Cinecittà con il sostegno di Casa Italiana NYU, in collaboration with Cineteca Nazionale and Cineteca di Bologna.

To close the year, we're thrilled to share this write-up on Awen Films in this week's Internazionale!

The article gives an overview of our projects from our first short doc, Treasure - The Story of Marcus Hook, to our first feature, If Only I Were That Warrior, and our latest, Stonebreakers. As we gear up for more screenings of Stonebreakers in the new year in Italy (don’t miss our new film series: Rovine d'America - rassegna cinematografica), the US, the UK, and France, we're grateful to Alessio Marchionna for taking us on this journey down memory lane, and for emphasizing the importance of examining the history of US social movements from an international perspective.

The piece also highlights our short doc on the Triangle Fire Memorial recently inaugurated in NYC by Remember the Triangle Fire Coalition, a project we were honored to produce in collaboration with NYU Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò, and other important collaborations we've had with Centro Primo Levi, Luca Peretti, Curtis John, and Andrea Fuma.
