If Luther never sang for Roberta Flack, he still would have been fine. He was one of the most sought-after vocal talents. He didn't just sing for Roberta. He sang background for Chaka, Chic, and for a while, lead with the group, Change. When you're that talented, you're going to make it, one way or the other (just to name a few quick one). Thankfully, Roberta Flack was very instrumental in his progression.
